Happy New Year 2015

By  |

The New Year is only a little over a day and a half away. Can you believe that 2014 is nearly at a close? Doesn’t it seem like we just got underway with the current year and now we are nearly ready to ring in the new one?

I am sure that many of our readers here at NiceGirlsTV are making their list of resolutions, right? If you’re not making a list or still deciding about what to put on your list, I would like to make some TV-related suggestions. How about watching some under-appreciated or ratings-challenged shows?

Here are my suggestions, starting with The CW:

The CW

The 100, Jane the Virgin and Reign – All three of these shows have their own sets of devoted viewers, but each one is suffering in the ratings. Each show, of course, covers a very different genre from a heavy-duty post-apocalyptic future, to the current-day charm of an over-the-top soap opera to the revisionist history of 14th Century France.

If you aren’t watching them, you are missing out. The 100 will be back with episodes from its second season on January 21 at 9/8c; Jane the Virgin will return for the rest of its debut season on January 19 at 9/8c while Reign will be back with episode from its second season on January 22 at 9/8c.

Then there are these cable dramas that could use some support:

Cable Show

Haven, Orphan Black and Chasing Life – The current, fifth season of the Syfy drama Haven has seen its unfair share of a ratings drop since it returned in September (the network has given it two very bad timeslots so far); Orphan Black may be a critically acclaimed series for BBC America, but its viewership doesn’t reflect that at all while Chasing Life is a wonderfully endearing show from ABC Family about a very difficult circumstance that has gone under-appreciated since its debut.

An official return date for Haven has yet to be announced by Syfy while Orphan Black will be back on BBC America on April 18 at 9/8c and Chasing Life will be back on ABC Family on January 19 at 9/8c.

Lastly, there are these major network shows that have loyal viewers, but aren’t exactly getting banner ratings this season:

Major Network

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sleepy Hollow and Grimm – While SHIELD is in its second season on ABC and the Marvel Universe has a big following, the ratings have just never reflected that; Sleepy Hollow was a big hit for FOX last season, but in its second season the thriller has lost over 3 million viewers every week. As for Grimm, the four-year-old NBC fairytale drama has never been a ratings giant, but it should be.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be back on ABC for the rest of its second season on March 3 at 9/8c; Sleepy Hollow will be back for the remainder of its second season on FOX on January 8 at 9/8c while Grimm will be back on NBC on January 16 at 9/8c.

As you make your resolutions for 2015, please give these shows a thought, catching up on them where you can and supporting them throughout the New Year.

Most of all have a wonderful and safe New Year!!
