SELFIE: “Here’s This Guy” {Recap}

By  |

Before this gets into the actual recap, let us all mourn the future lose of Selfie, which wasn’t given a full season pick up. *sheds a single sad tear* Will we get to see this sexual tension resolve between Eliza and Henry before the show leaves us?

We open today with Henry bringing Eliza a rotary phone for her to use – to teacher her patience and memorization.

The next day at the office, Eliza is introduced to Julia, Henry’s gentlewoman that he’s courting. With one stilted and awkward conversation, Julia leaves and it seems that Henry’s “low-key dating” her. This won’t go well for Eliza, especially since at the opening, she admitted that Henry’s her one true friend, without sex.

Eliza’s got some issues with Henry dating Julia, which I agree with because he and Julia have an oddly compatible relationship. Bryn points out that any relationship Henry has with Julia is going to ruin the relationship that he and Eliza have.

Nothing will go well, because Eliza also points out she has a new boyfriend, who Henry doesn’t like at all.

Mr Saperstein wants Eliza to introduce the keynote speaker at a conference, but when she wants to say that Henry will help, he’s nowhere to be seen. He’s also looking to scale back their work together. Who’s going to keep Eliza looking at actual people and not her phone if Henry’s spending time with Julia? Certainly not anyone else we know in the office.

As if to prove how much he values Julia over Eliza, he leaves Eliza to eat in his office alone while he goes to eat out with Julia. Charmonique – ever at Eliza’s back when it comes to Henry – suggests that Eliza take down Julia. Julia’s nearly perfect, and there’s no way to take down Julia so far.

Eliza gets stood up by Henry, especially after hearing about how Julia had some negative reviews about her practice that sound like Eliza’s tone earlier. Henry comes to defend Julia and chastise Eliza for trying to ruin Julia’s reputation. Henry walks away and perhaps their whole friendship has been ruined. Too bad they didn’t actually talk about what their relationship was before he started to date Julia.

Bryn and one of her bookclub friends are trying to extend an olive branch to their other friend and her boyfriend, which prompts Eliza to try the same. She makes a cake in the shape of a prostate, only to leave it for some other family. Julia brings the cake home, but Henry sees Eliza’s name and has a moment where he admits to Julia that Eliza’s not just a contemporary, but a friend and leaves Julia to go Eliza’s introduction.

Julia’s too put together, as she lets Henry go. Too bad Eliza couldn’t do a good job on the introduction – calling the keynote speaker, “This Guy”. Henry does show up, however, and then they leave because Eliza still needs so much work to be a woman that can function in the real world.

Selfie airs at 8 PM Eastern/7PM Central Tuesdays on ABC.
