THE GOOD WIFE – 6.07 ‘Message Discipline’ Cookie Tins & Jumping The Gun
This week had more twists and turns than any carnival ride I’ve ever seen. I agree with Alicia: “Okay. This is getting silly.” Ridiculous might be a better characterization.
Things are heating up in the election. There’s a third candidate in the mix. It appears local beloved TV legal commentator Frank Prady (David Hyde Pierce) may have decided to run. The simple rumor of his potential candidacy sets Eli and Elfman all aflutter who spread their own special brand of paranoia to Alicia.
The dynamic duo convince Alicia to ferret out the truth from Prady by having her ask for his endorsement. Alicia has a terrible time “playing politics” and stumbles badly in trying to be something she is not. In the end, she returns with two tins of cookies and an interview lined up.
To make matters worse, Elfman coaches her on supposed hard-ball questions and when dear old Frank throws only soft pitches, Alicia falls flat. And, who can blame her? Honestly, no wonder we have so many dishonest people in office. It seems those are the only ones willing to run. Geez! The whole thing makes a person feel ill.
What you may ask, did Alicia gain from all this legal maneuvering? Even when she drew a line in the sand by not leaking a potential damaging article on Prady, her two crack political helpers wiggle a way around it. This action was so successful it convinces Prady he MUST run!
This leads me to a life lesson. When one tries to manipulate others out of fear of what might happen, you can end up creating the exact scenario you were trying to avoid. Put simply, sometimes your best action is: nothing.
I for one, see the writing on the wall. Alicia would make a terrible States Attorney. Get out while you still have a soul!
The Governor needs legal advice and asks his “old friend” Ramona for the position. You may not remember her from a past episode, but you must remember her daughter, the sans-panty wearing intern. What is going on here? Are the two having an affair?
There was a great moment on her first day when Alicia comes across Peter’s new employee and only adds more fuel to my suspicion fire. It seems Ramona is now divorced and hasn’t worked in twelve years. I wonder? Is she a blond version of Alicia? The parallels are uncanny.
I must not forget to congratulate Ramona. She is no shrinking violet and handled herself in court against Diane amazingly well. This increases my belief that Peter is indeed having an affair. This guy loves strong independent women. For further proof, see Exhibit A: Kalinda.
Meanwhile, Polmar continues with his case against Cary under the watchful eye of Castro and uncovers additional charges. Fin alleges Cary was secretly working for Lemond Bishop while working at the ASA’s office and “lost” two kilos of cocaine for the drug lord. All of this drags Peter into and out of the mix and thanks to some super sleuthing from Kalinda the missing Tray Wagoner is found.
When Polmar hears from Wagoner about his involvement with Bishop, he wants to drop the charges. Castro blocks this move, thus proving Alicia is the real target of his prosecutorial zeal. Things go from bad to worse when Polmar resigns and the Wagoner turns up dead the next night. Now what do we do?
