Matthew Rhys Stars in Death Comes to Pemberley on PBS

By  |

On Sunday, October 26 and Sunday, November 2, the small screen adaptation of Death Comes to Pemberley by best-selling crime-writer P.D. James will air on PBS with The Americans and Brothers & Sisters star Matthew Rhys taking on the role of one of the most beloved and iconic literary characters in history: Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Death Comes to Pemberley is set six years after Elizabeth Bennet (Anna Maxwell Martin from The Bletchley Circle and Becoming Jane) and Fitzwilliam Darcy married in the classic novel “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen.

It is the eve of Pemberley’s annual ball, and just as all the preparations are set, a coach races up to the palatial estate with Lizzie’s naïve sister Lydia (Jenna Coleman from Doctor Who) inside, screaming “Murder!”. It would seem that a military officer friend of Lydia’s husband George Wickham (Matthew Goode from The Good Wife and Watchmen) – Captain Denny (newcomer Tom Canton) – has been killed and Wickham is suspected of being the culprit.

An investigation is launched, a scandal ensues threatening Pemberley and all the Darcys’ hold dear and Lizzie and Darcy are once again trapped inside a controversy for which Lydia and Wickham are front and center.

Who murdered Captain Denny? What is George Wickham hiding? And why is Lydia still so self-centered and immature?

The cast also includes Trevor Eve (Lawless and Troy), Eleanor Tomlinson (The White Queen and Jack the Giant Slayer) and James Fleet (Outlander).

Make sure to watch both parts of Death Comes to Pemberley on PBS on October 26 and November 2 at 9/8c (running for 90 minutes each night).
