Comic Con 2014: The 100 Talks About Its Second Season

By  |

This past July, a number of cast members and the executive producer from The CW series The 100 took to the stage at Comic Con to talk about their highly anticipated second season.

As the panel got underway, there was a lengthy recap of the show’s first season followed by a sneak peek at the first episode of the new season, which will premiere this Wednesday, October 22.

The panelists, including cast members Eliza Taylor, Isaiah Washington, Marie Avgeropoulos, Devon Bostick and new series regular Lindsay Morgan and Ricky Whittle as well as executive producer Jason Rothenberg, were then introduced by moderator Damian Holbrook from TV Guide Magazine.

Among the topics discussed during the panel were:

• Jason shared that he knew where the show was going from the start; he knew “they were going to Mount Weather and that is where they ended up”;

• The character of Jasper (played by Bostick) was actually supposed to die, but “Devon was so good” they knew “he had to stay”;

• Eliza shared that she “didn’t realize there would be that much action (in the show); but she “did so much (in the first season) that she didn’t even know she could do”;

• When talking about her character Octavia, Marie shared that “Octavia is the romantic heroine instead of a kick-ass (kind of girl), but then she meets Lincoln”;

• Jason wouldn’t share what is the fate of Finn (series regular Thomas McDonell) or Bellamy (series regular Bob Morley) [whose lives were in major jeopardy in the season finale] because “he (wants) the viewers to see it as it happens”;

• Jason nor Isaiah were open to talking about the circumstances behind Chancellor Jaha (Washington’s character) either with Isaiah only sharing that “it’s gonna be special”;

• All of the cast have sustained injuries during the filming of the first season because it is a very physical show with Eliza sharing that the “guns are heavy”

• The tattoos on the grounders will be explored more in season two with Jason sharing that the “tattoos are to honor kills made (by each grounder) not for pride”;

When asked about the harshest condition that they had to film under, Eliza said that episode 4 where they were on the cliff with Charlotte (guest star Izabela Vidovic) [where she leaps to her death; and yes, Jason did share that she is dead] was hard because there was so much “hail and rain and we were on a real cliff; (they were) the longest, hardest days we had to film”. Lindsay then shared that for her “episode 10 where (my character) was building (the bomb) and we were on that bridge”. She shared that she got a little bit of frostbite during that filming. And, Ricky shared that he had to spend countless hours in the chair to get all of the scars and tattoos on Lincoln and then running around the forest.

During the audience Q&A section of the panel, one of the better questions was if the people on Mount Weather knew about the Ark with Jason sharing that they didn’t know about them until the bomb went off on the bridge. “That woke the sleeping giant”, Jason said.

To find out just what happens next to the remaining members of the 100, which is now down to about 68 teens, as well as the adults from The Ark, who were shown to have landed on the face of the Earth at the end of the season finale, make sure to tune into The CW on Wednesday, October 22 at 9/8c.
