Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Andrea Newman
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on executive producer and writer Andrea Newman, who got her start as a script coordinator in 1997 on the popular comedy Spin City.
The following year, she joined the crew of the cult favorite drama Felicity, working as a writer and co-producer from 1998 through 2002. Throughout those years, Andrea also worked as a producer and writer on the popular dramedy Ed and the long-running drama 24.
In 2003, she worked as a supervising producer on the failed FOX pilot Still Life that was to star Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) and Morena Baccarin (Homeland and Firefly) and she also worked as a producer and writer on the short-lived drama Mister Sterling that starred Josh Brolin (the box office films No Country for Old Men and W.).
Two years later, she worked as a writer and co-executive producer on the short-lived FOX drama Point Pleasant and then worked as a co-executive producer and writer on the CBS procedural Cold Case. In 2007, she then worked as a co-executive producer and writer on Private Practice.
A few seasons later (2010), she worked on the first season of the FOX drama Human Target as a writer and co-executive producer and then the following year moved over to The CW supernatural-laced The Secret Circle, working as a writer and executive producer.
Since 2012, she has been a writer and co-executive producer on the popular NBC drama Chicago Fire, which led to her signing an overall deal with the network where she will continue with the drama and will also develop other projects for the network.
