MODERN FAMILY: THE COLD RECAP

By  |

I have to start off by saying as a borderline germophobe, this week’s episode gave me the heebie-jeebies. Yuck! It was still hilarious and definitely had an Ewww factor we usually don’t see on Modern Family. On that note, let’s get down to it.

Mitchell brought a terrible cold back from his honeymoon that spread throughout the family. Each member had a different form of it, but everyone had their turn being sick. Now it was Claire’s turn. She was stuffy but going to work anyway to meet a client on a Saturday (that’s some serious dedication). Phil tried to kiss her goodbye but she refused because she didn’t want to get him sick.

Phil got his hands on Cam and Mitch’s wedding video (his friend who does infomercials did the video for them as a favor to Phil) and decided to watch it before the big viewing party later that day. Not good for Phil. He saw himself sneeze on the wedding cake (without covering his mouth), into Mitchell’s champagne glass and finally into his hanky (after he sneezed all over everything). Gross! All this happened during Jay’s toast (which appeared to be really sweet if you could get past all the germs). Phil realized that he didn’t have allergies after all and he caused the cold that spread through the family. There was only one thing he could do, get rid of the evidence (apparently this isn’t the first time he has gotten the family sick). His plan was to edit the video so no one would find out (except for Luke because he already saw it).

Manny had a big football game (he is the kicker) and he was really nervous. Jay told Gloria nerves were good and he would be fine. Coach Cam practiced with Manny before the game and he missed every kick. Cam wanted to bench him but felt he should be loyal to his family. At game time Coach Cam did what he had to do, and benched Manny. It was a tough call, but it was what needed to be done.

Claire was feeling worse and vertigo kicked in right when she was about to meet with the client. Watching her walk off balance to the lounge was too funny. She thought she was going to be able to pull it off until her client told that he got them a table at the revolving restaurant in the hotel. Yikes!

Phil and Luke filmed a bunch of green screen scenes so Phil could edit them into the wedding video to cover up his sneezing. I love the father/son moments between Phil and Luke. They really are a funny duo. The first edit of their video was worse than the original. It was hilarious but not what you want to see for a wedding video. After their efforts, Phil was going to have to face the music and show the real video.

Everyone arrived to Gloria and Jay’s for a family dinner and the wedding video screening. Gloria was still upset with Cam for benching Manny so she made him sit at the bar in the kitchen behind everyone. Gloria blamed Jay for Manny being so nervous, but Manny admitted it was Gloria. When she refers to him as her perfect angel it puts pressure on him. He said he was never worried about impressing Jay because Jay knew all along he sucked at sports. I love that kid’s honesty!

Meanwhile Claire arrived late and barely made it in the house she was so sick. Phil thought it was the perfect excuse for them not to watch the video but that didn’t work. Lily cued up the video and everyone noticed embarrassing things about themselves like Mitch’s dancing, Cam’s crying face and Jay’s huge sweat stain. Before it got to his sneezing fit, Phil offered to edit the embarrassing parts of the video out. Mitch thought it was a good idea and Phil thought he was off the hook. That is until Lily told him, “I know you sneezed on the cake!” Yep he is in trouble now.

Quote of the night- Phil to Luke: “If laughter is the best medicine, then you are the grape flavored Triaminic.”
