LOST GIRL WINS AT DRAGON CON
With the announcement that next season of Lost Girl will be the last, Lost Girl fans from all over the country showed up at Dragon Con to see Lost Girl cast members Ksenia Solo (Kenzi), Rick Howland (Trick) and Emmanuelle Vaugier (The Morrigan). They had 3 panels over the weekend and spent time meeting fans in the Walk of Fame area and they were a huge hit! I attended their first panel on Saturday and it was at full capacity! When the cast came out onstage the audience went absolutely crazy with excitement. ***Warning Spoilers ahead***
The cast was overwhelmed by response they received. It was a nice big southern welcome! Ksenia rocked her new blonde hair and looked gorgeous! She spoke highly of her castmates and said there is non-stop laughter among them on the set. She said it was so nice to work with people she genuinely cares about. When asked if she had her eye on anything to take from the set, she said Geraldine! She told the audience that her scene with Massimo and Hale (Hale’s death scene) was the toughest scene she has ever shot in her career. She said it took her a week just to mentally prepare for it. She said she knew it had to be the deepest place that Kenzi would ever have to go. She said it was 15 hours of screaming and crying and it was physically exhausting. She said KC Collins was so dedicated to making it beautiful and heartfelt. She said it took her a week to recover from that scene. I have to say it that scene was well done! It was heart wrenching and the cast did a fantastic job!
Emmanuelle had a lot of fun at Dragon Con and dressed up like My Little Pony for the panel. It was a big hit with the crowd and she looked so cute! She said she had just gotten the costume in LA and couldn’t wait to wear it at Dragon Con! When asked what her favorite line was, she said “Scissor already” was one she liked. Rick piped in by saying no one ever says anything like that to Trick. Poor Trick is too busy in his book to get any action. This became a running joke throughout the rest of the panel. Too funny!
Rick was hilarious in the panel and was in Trick form, because he still had Trick’s tattoo on. He explained to the audience that he was filming late on Friday before he made the trip to Atlanta for (that is dedication people). When asked what would be his biggest take away from the Lost Girl fandom, he said it would not only be the relationships with the cast and crew, but for him it would be how much Lost Girl is loved by the fans and much that meant to him as well as the other cast. He said it is mind-blowing!
My favorite part of this panel was when Ksenia said (on behalf of the women on the show), “We have been proud since day 1, to be a part of something that is about female power and owning who you are, and making your own decisions and not letting anyone else come and take over and do that for you. You stand your ground, you fight for what you want and you get it!” The mostly female audience roared with applause. Girl power! She also wanted to give a special shout out to Jay Firestone for creating strong female characters, not only in Lost Girl but in all of his projects. Kudos to Mr. Firestone.
Also, during the Saturday panel there was a lot of laughter when Ksenia started to have a little fun with the ASL translator. She started to say penis at the end of a sentence and everyone else joined in on the fun. They kept saying inappropriate things and it never got old. When they were done, everyone in the audience knew the sign for “fishing for penises” thanks to Rick. It was so inappropriate and hilarious, it could only happen at Dragon Con.
I was lucky enough to meet all three of them and they were so gracious and thankful for their amazing fans. Lost Girl definitely made my Dragon Con awesome!
Lost Girl will return on Syfy for its final season in 2015!
