Steven Weber, Brother Michael

Steven Weber and Matt Long are added to the cast for the second season of Syfy’s hit new series Helix currently underway in Montreal. Weber will join the cast as a recurring guest star as cult leader Brother Michael. Long joins as series regular, Dr. Kyle Sommer, newbie CDC Team Member.

I am excited to see what these two characters bring to the second season of Helix where we return after the Narvik Virus is released beyond the borders of Arctic Biosystems. We learn a couple of clues on what will happen in the upcoming season. The CDC investigates a new outbreak aboard a cruise ship which then leads to an island inhabited by cult leader Brother Michael.  For  more details, read the complete release below.

NEW YORK – August 14, 2014 – Syfy announced today that Steven Weber (Wings, Murder in the First) and Matt Long (Mad Men, Jack and Bobby) have joined the cast of its mysterious viral thriller, Helix.

The second season of Helix finds the doctors of the Centers for Disease Control, still haunted by the Narvik outbreak and the events that took place in Arctic Biosystems, investigating a deadly outbreak of a new disease on a Windjammer cruise ship.  Their investigation leads them to a mysterious island inhabited by a cult with the hope of creating a utopian society.

Filming for the series’ 13-episode second season is currently underway in Montreal, Quebec.

Weber, who joins the show as a recurring guest star, will portray Brother Michael, the charismatic leader of the cult.  Magnetic and charming, he is brilliant speaker and sermonizer, but also a first-class geneticist.

Long, who joins the show as a series regular, will play Dr. Kyle Sommer, the newest member of the CDC team, a world-class toxicologist whose charm matches his sharp intellect.  A preacher’s son from Texas, he is quick with a story or a joke, able to ingratiate himself into any group.

Helix is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), Steven Maeda (Lost, The X-Files) who is also showrunner, and Lynda Obst (Contact, Sleepless in Seattle).  The series is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Kaji Productions and Lynda Obst Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.|

Helix stars Billy Campbell (Killing Lincoln, The Killing), Kyra Zagorsky (Supernatural) and Matt Long (Mad Men).  Also returning for Season 2 are Jordan Hayes (What If) and Neil Napier (X-Men: Days of Future Past ).
