DOMINION Interview Christopher Egan at Comic-Con & Second Season Musings
We began with a familiar topic. Social Media. Christopher revealed: “I was actually reluctant to twitter…..It took me years and years to really understand. I started seeing the interaction we were having and the effect and the fact that you could communicate so easily with fans…and now I’m addicted to it.” He further explained what he loved about tweeting with fans, “It’s been amazing to see the effect the show has had on people, their lives, fan art. We’ve had some amazing messages and posts from fans that it’s….just takes you back to the basics of why we do what we do and the effect it has on people. At the end of the day to see these peoples response makes us feel so great.”
“It’s been fun and it’s tough. I wanted to make it as real as possible given the fact because the world we’ve created in Vega is so otherworldly.”
On the subject of the tattoos Egan explained it took three hours each time to apply them for shooting. We really got his goat at 3:53 when the question was asked regarding just how far those tattoo’s go on his body. Egan sheepishly replied: “They do circles…..”
Christopher further explained; “Even Michael doesn’t quite have an understanding of what these (tattoos) are.” To my mind it seems if/when Dominion gets a season two the tattoos and understanding them moving forward will prove critical.
Another avenue everyone would like to explore involves Alex and Clare. Egan agreed: “It would be great to go into how Claire and Alex met. ” Now that it has been revealed Claire is pregnant with Alex’s child their backstory is even more intriguing.
I loved the letter Alex wrote to his unborn son during the finale which paralleled his experience with his own father-figure, Jeep. You get the real feeling Alex now understands the tremendous responsibility and impossible choices that must be made to create a better world. Truly being a parent changes everything.
Egan also said, “It’s the higher angels that are the real threat.” We see that threat come in to focus during the finale when it is revealed just how much a hazard Uriel and Gabriel truly are. The peril spreads to the highest reaches of Vega and to Michael who takes flight in a fit of rage dictated by his siblings.
I hope an announcement is made soon regarding the renewal of Dominion which will allow the fans to breathe a huge sigh of relief.
