Dominion Premiere – Angels Aren’t So Nice After All
Dominion picks up 25 years after the feature film Legion where God turned his back on mankind. The Archangel Michael chose to try and save men while Gabriel and the lower class angels embraced darkness and chaos. Vega is what’s left of sin city, Las Vegas…now fortified and under a new very strict caste system. These cast’s are from V0 to V6 with six being the ruling class. Religion plays a major role in this society where they seek a “Chosen One” to arrive and free the world.
“Everything in Vega has a purpose. That is how we survive.”
We are introduced to our hero, Alex when he stumbles upon a nest of “Eight- Balls” (demons) playing Texas Hold’em. Alex runs from the trio with the angel in hot pursuit. It seems our hero, Alex, is a bit of a rebel and was taken to the Archangel for leaving the city. Michael at first comes across distant and cold, especially when he punishes Alex, but I get the feeling he is more worried than angry.
A stranger arrives after a near fifteen year absence. He is a dear friend of the Archangel and is also Alex’s long estranged father. Daddy also sports some amazingly creative tattoos. Alex wants nothing to do with dear old Dad. Jeeep brings grave tidings of Gabriel’s discover, impending war and the knowledge of The Chosen One.
Alex, who is a V2 cast is in love with the beautiful V6 cast Claire, and the duo plan’s to start a new life together. Her father, General Reisen has shown Alex great favor since he took a knife for his beloved daughter, but his goodwill might change when he discovers their secret affair. It also seems someone else has their sights on the General’s daughter, William Whele, religious leader and son of the powerful Senator Whele.
“People have lived inside these walls so long, they’ve forgotten they’re not prisoners.” General Riesen plans to step down from power and turn the leadership over to the people. However it’s obvious that the Senator might have a thing or three to say on the subject. Power, once gained becomes addictive.
The Jubilee is upon us and each man General and Senator maneuvers for a stronger position. As it turns out everyone was in for a several shocking surprises. The General announces his plans to the entire crowd regarding Claire’s happy wedding to William Whele. Claire and Alex both are horrified. What trickery is this? We have no time to consider when the Senator’s silly display of power by bringing a Possessed “Eight-Ball” kills their champion wreaking havoc on the terrified crowd.
In the melee Jeep is killed and with his dying breath reveals Alex is the “Chosen One’ much to everyone’s mutual horror. Upon his death, the tattoos transfer themselves to Alex thereby confirming his declaration as truth. Those tattoo’s are indeed amazing as they act as the coolest magic decoder ring I’ve ever seen warning Alex of coming danger.
And danger is on the horizon when it is revealed in the final scenes that Clair’s newly betrothed is not what he seems. He is in fact a worshiper of Gabriel the enemy.
Observations:
• There was so much going on this first episode it is difficult to take everything in. I needed a second viewing to feel like I had a handle on what was going on.
• In my opinion Gabriel, is the most interesting and pure evil character of the bunch. I can’t wait to see more of him.
