MODERN FAMILY RECAP: SPRING-A-DING-FLING

By  |

I have to start out by saying I loved Cam and Claire dancing together! I really think Modern Family should do a musical episode after getting a little peek of them dancing at the Spring-A-Ding-Fling. That would be awesome!

We open with Cam and Mitch both equally excited about their new jobs. Mitch is going to work for a law firm that allows him to be the voice of the people, and Cam is in charge of putting on the school’s spring dance. Yay!

Phil is excited because it is time for his annual realtor’s banquet (that is the same night as the dance). Claire is a chaperone for the dance, so Haley is going to be Phil’s date (only because she almost got caught with a bunch of people in the basement. She agreed to go with him to distract him).

Mitch arrives to his new office and it appears that his new boss Wendy (Aisha Tyler…who I love) might be a bit of a monster. She yells at her employees, and Mitch had a few notes in his desk drawer (from the employee who left before he got there) warning him to get out before it was too late. He overheard some employees discussing the work conditions and being afraid to talk to her about a case. He was not quite sure what he got himself into.

Wendy asked Mitch to groom Rex as his first assignment and Mitch assumed that Rex was the office dog. He went over to the dog and introduced himself! It was too funny! He groomed Rex and thought about how giving a dog a bath on his first day at a law firm wasn’t right. He decided to stand up to Wendy. He told her that she didn’t treat her employees right and that he shouldn’t be grooming a dog. Well, of course there was a mix up because Rex was the new intern, not the dog. The dog’s name was Pixie, so that was Mitchell’s bad. Then he realized what he overheard the employees saying about bad work conditions, was actually related to a case not Wendy’s office. Woops! Mitchell had everything wrong and felt bad about it.

Since everyone was going out (between the dance and Phil’s banquet), Jay and Gloria were in charge of babysitting Lily. Gloria’s phone got cracked and when she asked Lily how it happened, she blamed it on Baby Joe. Of course, they didn’t believe her because Baby Joe, can’t walk yet, let alone reach a purse to knock over and smash a phone. Jay thinks he can get Lily to confess so he talked to her but she stuck to her story. Gloria took a crack at it (in a more threatening way) and it was the same, she said Baby Joe did it.

Lily told them that baby Joe walked over to get Gloria’s phone and they know for sure she was lying. She said Baby Joe always walks for her. She said “Come Here Baby Joe” and he got up off of the floor and walked over to her. They couldn’t believe it! Gloria apologized for not believing her.

Lily then said that she got lucky that he took his first steps at that moment. She admitted that she did break the phone and we see her making footprints with his shoes to prove he walked to get the phone. She said she is going to blame everything on Baby Joe until he can talk. That little Lily is a sneaky one.

Cam loves being the favorite teacher at school. His “Spring-A-Ding-Fling” (he added the “A-Ding” of course) raised more money than any other dance. He loved all of the attention until Senor Kaplan (Will Sasso) returned from sabbatical. Everyone was so excited to see him and he was the favorite before Cam, so Cam did not want him to steal his thunder.

At the dance, Cam and Senor Kaplan had a few catty remarks to each other, but kept them in a pleasant tone. When it was time for the faculty dance, Cam went on the floor to strut his stuff. Senor Kaplan went out there too and they had a dance off. Cam was not going to be outdone, so he grabbed Claire and spun her around. They danced and ended with fabulous dip that won the crowd over and Cam was right back to being a star! Senor Kaplan walked away with a loss.

At the banquet, Phil was the host (for the third time) and had a huge dance number prepared. He came out strong and when he noticed Haley on her phone it threw him off and he tripped and fell off of the stage (while wearing a dress). A doctor (who was at the banquet) was tending to Phil’s leg, and Phil told him that he felt bad that Haley found him so boring. He always thought she might go into real estate like him.

When they announced the big award winner for the night it was Phil! Woo hoo! He tried to get up but couldn’t so Haley went up there to accept his award. She told the room that they might know him as a great realtor, but she knew him as the best Dad. It was really sweet and Phil was touched. She then went on to finish his jokes (she heard him rehearse enough) that he didn’t get to say because he fell. She was a huge hit and Phil was very proud.
