Getting a First Look at STAR-CROSSED

By  |

This past July at the San Diego Comic Con, some of the cast – Matt Latner (90210), Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) and Grey Damon (The Nine Lives of Chloe King) – as well as the creative team – Executive Producers Adele Lim, Meredith Averill and Josh Applebaum – for the upcoming CW series Star-Crossed took the stage to debut their new drama for one of the most discerning audiences on the planet.

If you haven’t seen any of the trailers that have been airing on The CW over the last few weeks, the basic premise of the show starts when an alien race known as the Atrians crash-lands on Earth; but they were looking for solace – a new home – but instead they were met with fear and weapons. The focus will be on Emery (Teegarden) and Roman (Latner), who first meet as 6-year-olds when Emery hides Roman from the military; but he is soon caught with Emery believing Roman was killed. Ten years later, Emery heads back to high school for the first time (I won’t spoil the reason behind this, though) and a group of Atrian teens are enrolled at her high school in an effort to test human-alien integration. The two, of course, reconnect and sparks fly.

The things that viewers should know is that Star-Crossed is not Romeo and Juliet – despite the similarities – and it is not Roswell – again, despite the similarities. The show can (and should) stand on its own with its social commentary on immigration and the integration between the two races.

The executive producers shared during the panel that they plan to learn why and how the Atrians ended up on Earth – whether it was a malfunction in their spaceship or if it was perhaps sabotage. This will, of course, be played out in flashbacks. They also look forward to writing the love triangle between Emery, Roman and Grayson (Damon), who is the new guy at high school (he’s human, by the way) who takes an immediate liking to Emery. The epic clash between Humans and Atrians will also be a big focus of this series.

In talking to the cast about why they chose to take on their roles in this new series, Aimee and Matt both admitted they are fans of sci-fi with Aimee sharing that she thinks “sci-fi is her jam” and Matt “welcomes the darker sci-fi aspects”.

Josh shared that they will “start giving answers quickly” and revealed that the folks at The CW actually asked them to push the sci-fi aspects of the show.

The cast of Star-Crossed will include Natalie Hall (Pretty Little Liars), Malese Jow (The Vampire Diaries), Titus Makin, Jr. (Glee) and Greg Finley (The Secret Life of the American Teenager).

Some other familiar faces who will show up in the series include Susan Walters (The Vampire Diaries), Stephanie Jacobsen (Revenge and Battlestar Galactica) and Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse).

Star-Crossed will debut on The CW starting on Monday, February 17 at 9/8c.
