HELIX – 1.07 ‘Subject Zero’ Everybody Lies
That damned Automated Voice is at it again, and warns of an incoming flight. This is no Calvary, it’s Ilaria Corporation, and they have an agenda. Enter Military Corporate Barbie, Constance Sutton (Jeri Ryan). Sutton flashes a brilliant smile, however there is quite a bit of steel behind the facade. When she confronts Hitake the mask comes off. Constance wants a cure and needs it now! Hitake has gone off the rails and Ilaria is reigning him in.
Sutton catches Daniel in the hall and tries her feminine wiles on Aerov, however I don’t think he’s buying what she’s selling. Daniel confronts Hitake with Constance’s ploy. Hitake says it was for his own protection, however like most things if you don’t explain mysteries, children will fill in the blanks themselves. Daniel speaks privately with his long lost sister, Anana and is informed of a family he never knew. Hitake is confronted with this mini family reunion and with his chickens coming home to roost, he’s got some explaining to do.
Constance lays down the law with Dr. Hiroshi. No witnesses. No one gets out alive. She uncovers Hitake’s secret hidey-hole and is precious is revealed. Julia. The Dr. covers well, but Sutton smells a rat.
Sergio does not make a good passenger and the backseat snowmobile driving doesn’t endear him to Anana. The two are headed to Arctic Biosystems and share a real moment together over tales of the boogeyman. I wonder who is going to be more surprised upon arrival, Daniel or Anana each for different reasons? Sergio flashes a smile upon arrival sporting a duct tape bandage for the camera. Duct tape. I put that shit on everything!
Balleseros is presented to Constance and another twist appears. Not only are they working together, but the pair are lovers. Apparently, Balleseros likes his women vicious. Thank God she already filed those nibblers, or that would have left a mark!
Alan and Jordan are quickly putting the clues together and decide to continue working for a cure, but plan to keep it a secret for their own protection. Dr. Farragut ensconced with Sutton and armed to the teeth attempt a rescue operation on Level R without success only to discover her topside after Hitake spirits her away. Julia reveals her eyes to Alan and the two share an embrace much to the observing Juilias heartbreak. Face it girl, Alan shares Biology with several ladies. What a player.
Dr. Walker is coming out from Wonderland and knows something is different. Ever the vigilant Scientist, she takes a blood sample, but her eyes are troubling her. She blindfolds herself and has a conversation with her chimera in the form of Peter. Who, by the way, looks awesome without the infection. Peter suggests that she may be Survivor Zero and brings up a more important point. “Why are you hallucinating me instead of Alan.” You know it’s bad when your delusion calls you out! While Julia finishes up her self delusion, she is confronted with a raving Vector. And, whad’ya know, she’s a Vector whisperer too! Enter Hitake and when he sees her appearance he is moved to tears. How is it possible for this guy to be even more creepy? Hiroshi takes odd to a whole new level! Hiroyuki Sanada, you complete me.
Observations:
- Hitake said he never cared about a cure. Clearly the only important thing to him is Julia. But why?
- What is up with the missing children?
- Sergio is a very complicated character and I suspect that, although he killed Doreen, he might actually turn out to be one of the good guys. He may be Sutton’s lover, but I feel he has his own agenda as well.
- Constance is apparently infected too if the silver eyes are any indication, however the teeth filing takes things to a whole new platform of weird.
