MODERN FAMILY RECAP: THREE DINNERS
I have to start out by saying this episode made me so hungry! Everyone had an experience at dinner and I wanted to go out to eat. All the food and the mojitos (that’s what I really wanted)! Dinner was definitely a big part of this episode so I just wanted to give a little shout out to the yummy food and drinks this week. Let’s get to it!
Phil and Claire took Haley out to dinner to find out what her life plans were. She is currently living in the basement and only taking three classes a week. They figure if they get a few mojitos in her she would spill the beans. Haley knew something was up and wouldn’t drink with her parents because she wanted to stay on her toes. When they finally asked her about her life plans she told them that she has been doing a fashion blog and she plans to take business classes next semester because she wanted to be a stylist. Phil and Claire were so proud that she actually had a plan and felt bad for assuming she didn’t. By the end of dinner Claire and Phil were too buzzed to drive and Phil didn’t have his wallet. Haley had to pay the check and drive them home. Hilarious!
Jay and Gloria had Jay’s best friend Shorty (guest star Chazz Palminteri) and his wife Darlene (guest star Jennifer Tilly) over for dinner. Shorty shared that they were moving to Costa Rica and Jay got super defensive and negative about it. He said it wouldn’t last 3 months and the humidity there (as well as the mosquitoes the size of a fist) would send them right back. Jay and Shorty attempted to play pool after the awkward dinner but Jay ended up picking a fight with him and he left. Gloria told Jay that he always pushes people away when they are leaving so it wouldn’t hurt as much when they left. She encouraged him to go talk to Shorty and tell him how he really felt. Just as he was leaving Shorty was at the door. Jay apologized and told him that he was his best friend. Jay got really emotional and Gloria thought it got a little more girly than she expected.
Cam and Mitchell went out for a romantic dinner and they weren’t allowed to talk about Lily or the wedding (which left them nothing really to talk about). They have been a little tense with each other during the wedding planning process and wanted to reconnect. Cam asked the couple next to them what they ordered and the woman offered him a taste of her food. They became friendly and when the woman went to the restroom the guy shared that he was going to propose. Cam got excited and offered to video it on his phone for them. Mitchell didn’t want him to interfere, because Cam tends to get excited and he could give it away.
Once the woman returned from the restroom, he proposed to her and she said no! Cam and Mitchell were shocked. The woman said she didn’t want to end up a married couple with nothing to talk about. Cam and Mitchell looked at each other and realized they kind of fit that profile. Without discussing Lily and the wedding they were trying hard to find something to discuss (Cam even went as far as reading current news off of his phone). Cam and Mitchell told the woman that they had a lot to talk about and they complimented each other. By focusing on the positive aspect of their relationship they reconnected. They thought their love was encouraging her to say yes, but instead it solidified her response to the proposal and she left the restaurant. She knew she wanted a love like Cam and Mitchell’s but she didn’t think it could be with her boyfriend.
Cam and Mitchell tried to console the rejected man by telling him he was better off without her and Mitchell said she had bad hair and seemed dingy. She came back and said she was scared and that she did want to marry him (make up your mind lady). Cam and Mitchell left and did not want to get anymore in the middle of that drama. Moral of the story: Don’t ask your neighbor at a restaurant what they ordered. It may open up a whole can of worms you weren’t prepared for.
Modern Family airs Wednesday nights at 9/8c on ABC.
