The New and Returning Faces for Mid-Season 2014

By  |

Just a few months ago, the 2013-2014 TV season got underway, but now we will soon be entering into mid-season programming, which means the debut of many more new shows on the major networks. And with the debut of over a dozen new shows, so too does that mean there will be new faces to look out for as well as welcoming back some familiar faces who have been missing from the small screen for a while.

First, here is a list of the new faces to watch out for in the new year. They appear in alphabetical order by TV show:

Jake and Johnny

Jake and Johnny

Jake McLaughlin and Johnny Sequoyah (Believe on NBC) – This new drama that includes J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron as executive producers is about a young man named Tate (McLaughlin), wrongfully imprisoned on death row, who is sprung from prison in order to protect a young girl named Bo (Sequoyan). Bo is a 10-year old girl with special gifts who has been raised by a group known as the “True Believers”, but there are outside forces who want her power for themselves and Tate is now her protector.

Jake has appeared in episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS: Los Angeles, Criminal Minds, Heroes, Cold Case, Leverage and The Mentalist. He also appeared in the short-lived TV series Crash. Little Johnny, on the other hand, is a newcomer to TV with roles in several upcoming box office movies.

Devin Kelley

Devin Kelley

Devin Kelley (Resurrection on ABC) – The series asks what happens when the people you have buried and mourned suddenly appear on your doorstep as if not a day’s gone by.

Devin will play Gail Garland, a tough and smart doctor at the local clinic in Arcadia with an inquisitive nature, who is the daughter of the local sheriff. She has appeared in the short-lived cop drama The Chicago Code and she appeared on Covert Affairs as Parker Rowland, Auggie’s former fiancée.

Marie, Thomas and Eliza

Marie, Thomas and Eliza

Marie Avgeropoulos, Thomas McDonell and Eliza Taylor (The 100 on The CW) – The series is set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, revolving around 100 juvenile delinquents who are sent back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet.

All three of these actors are part of the 100 delinquents sent to Earth with Marie playing Octavia Black, who was hidden by her mother and older brother for years due to a mandate that all families can only have one child; Eliza plays Clarke Walters, the daughter of the chief medical officer and Thomas plays Finn, a mysterious guy who is part of the 100.

Marie appeared in the short-lived CW series Cult and guest starred in episodes of Fringe, Supernatural, 90210 and Eureka as well as the made-for-TV movie Fugitive at 17. Thomas has appeared in several episodes of Suburgatory and the films Fun Size and Prom. And, Australian native Eliza is best known for her work in the long-running Aussie soap opera Neighbours.

Eoin Macken

Eoin Macken

Eoin Macken (The Night Shift on NBC) – At San Antonio Memorial Hospital, the men and woman who work the night shift are a special breed. The team at this hospital are irreverent but dedicated to their patients, but now that there is new management, who are only interested in cutting costs, this team will go to war for the patients.

Eoin will play T. C. Callahan, the head doctor on the night shift at the hospital. He is best known for his recurring role of Sir Gwaine on the latter seasons of Merlin and he also had a small role on The Tudors.

Daniel and Erin

Daniel and Erin

Erin Krakow and Daniel Lissing (When Calls the Heart on Hallmark) – The series is adapted from the Janette Oke novel that first aired on the network as a two-hour movie. The story focused on Elizabeth Thatcher, a young Canadian woman accustomed to high society life, who receives her first classroom posting in a small coal-mining town in the Western frontier.

Erin will play the lead role of Elizabeth Thatcher. She got her first big break in a recurring role on Army Wives and then appeared in an episode of Castle before landing the role in this new series while Daniel will play Jack Thornton, a Canadian Mountie who will be the new constable in the coal-mining town where Elizabeth teaches. He first got noticed for his role in the short-lived US series Last Resort and the Australian series Crownies.

Now, let’s take a look at some faces who are returning to TV after an absence or are making their small screen debut:

John Malkovich

John Malkovich

John Malkovich (Crossbones on NBC) – The series will be set in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown, part marauder’s paradise, this is a place like no other on Earth — and a mounting threat to international commerce.

John, of course, has a long list of box office films, including Empire of the Sun, Dangerous Liaisons, The Man in the Iron Mask, Being John Malkovich, Red, Secretariat, Red II and more. He will play the lead character of Blackbeard.

Josh Holloway

Josh Holloway

Josh Holloway (Intelligence on CBS) – This new series is about a U.S. intelligence unit whose top agent, Gabriel Black, has some very special abilities — a microchip that has been implanted into his head that allows him to access the entire electromagnetic spectrum.

Josh is best known for his role on the ABC juggernaut series Lost, but he has also appeared in the box office films Paranoia, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Battle of the Year as well as the made-for-TV movie Five and a guest appearance on Community. He will play the lead character Gabriel Black.

Tricia Helfer

Tricia Helfer

Tricia Helfer (Killer Women on ABC) – The drama centers on Molly Parker, the only woman in the notoriously male Texas Rangers; a ballsy, beautiful badass who knows how to get to the truth and isn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers on her way there. She is the sheriff’s daughter, who has a doctorate in gender studies as well as a Miss Texas crown. She was handpicked to be one of the two female Texas Rangers, she is a forensic specialist, an interrogation ace and can shoot with deadly precision.

Tricia got her big break in the critically acclaimed sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica but she has also appeared in Burn Notice, the short-lived cop drama Dark Blue, the short-lived drama The Firm and the made-for-TV holiday movie Mistletoe Over Manhattan. Tricia will play the lead character Molly Parker.

Adam and Cam

Adam and Cam

Cam Gigandet and Adam Rodriguez (Reckless on CBS) – This new series is a legal drama set in Charleston, S.C., where a gorgeous Yankee litigator and a Southern city attorney struggle to hide their intense attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal.

Cam appeared in The O.C. before landing a role in the first Twilight franchise film, which he followed up with roles in Easy A, Burlesque, The Roommate and Priest. He will play the lead character: Roy, the city attorney, who is a liberal Renaissance man and father of two whose wife left him for a Florida developer. Meanwhile, Adam was a series regular on CSI: Miami, but he also appeared in the final season of Roswell and had a recurring role on Ugly Betty. He also appeared in the box office movie Magic Mike and I Can Do Bad All by Myself. He will appear as Preston, a well-respected police detective who works on the Charleston Police Department.

Isaiah and Henry

Isaiah and Henry

Henry Ian Cusick and Isaiah Washington (The 100 on The CW) – As reference above, The 100 is set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, revolving around 100 juvenile delinquents who are sent back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet.

Henry was also an alum of Lost and, since then, he has appeared in the first season of Scandal and episodes of Fringe and The Mentalist as well as the box office film Hitman. He will play Councilman Kane, the second in command of the remaining human race. Isaiah is best known for his role on Grey’s Anatomy, but he also appeared in the short-lived remake of The Bionic Woman and the acclaimed independent film Blue Caprice. He will play Chancellor Jaha, the man in charge of the remaining human race.
