MODERN FAMILY RECAP: A FAIR TO REMEMBER

Happy 20^th anniversary Claire and Phil! Hailey, Alex, and Luke stomped loudly up the stairs to bring their parents breakfast in bed (they didn’t want a repeat of the time walked in on them having a frisky moment). Phil was excited because he planned to surprise Claire by singing to her with an all-Dad band called The Dad Beats (I love it!) at the Fair.

Mitch, Cam and Lily were at the Fair and Cam was stressed out because his football team lost (it is hilarious to see Cam coach football because the high voice goes away and he gets so into it). A parent comes up to him and threatens to take his son (who is a good running back) off of the team. He gives Cam one week to get it together and that made Cam even more stressed out.

Manny was thrilled because he baked an awesome cake to enter in the cake contest. Jay didn’t think baking a cake would help him fit in with the kids at school so he tried to talk him out of it. Manny’s defense was that Chef’s get all the ladies (that’s right Manny! Secretly we all want a man who cooks…or at least I do).

Haley went over to Jay and Gloria’s house to hang out by the pool and have a beer (I didn’t didn’t think she was 21 but ok). She got startled by Andy the “Manny” because she didn’t know who he was. He told her she needed permission to go in the pool so she tried to flirt with him, but he wasn’t interested. She wanted to drink beer by the pool and he told her it wasn’t safe. Of course she broke the bottle of beer and got glass in the pool, so Andy got in the pool to pick out the glass piece by piece (this was my least favorite story line of this episode because I felt all she had to do was pour her beer in a cup).

At the Fair, Gloria signed Jay up to be a Fair cop. He was to arrest people for fake crimes and put them in the jail for 10 minutes (it was all in fun). He really wasn’t happy when he saw that his partner was the guy he got into an altercation with in the parking lot over his parking space (and he took Jay’s space). They made fun of each other and were friendly after a few arrests.

Claire tried to get Phil to leave early because she had a surprise for him at home. He stalled her by getting her arrested and thrown in jail for having a hot booty (hilarious). Once she broke out of jail, (thanks to a little kid) she found Phil by the stage. She tried to get him to leave but he told her stay for one song. The Dad Beats said they had a special guest and Phil was ready to take the stage, but they called up the local pharmacist instead and he rocked the house! He had a great voice and Phil looked so disappointed. They called Phil up on stage next and he didn’t want to follow that performance, so he just called out a license plate number and pretended the car was being towed. Aw! His surprise was ruined and by the look on Claire’s face, she knew he planned to sing to her.

Gloria started to think Jay was right when she watched Manny onstage for the cake contest so she purposely messed up his cake hoping he would go play with the other boys. Manny thought it was an older lady (who viewed him as competition) that ruined his cake so he was ready for a cake war and did not give up on the contest.

Luke confided in Alex that he had a crush on a girl and wanted her advice. Alex later found out that Luke’s crush was on her friend Sienna (who Alex wanted to secure as a friend before she realized what a nerd she was). Luke had Alex arrested by the fair cops so he could be alone with Sienna. Alex found out Sienna was his crush (from Claire of course) and got to them just as Luke was going to kiss her(which Sienna thought was for “practice”). Alex told her that she was his crush, and Luke told her what a nerd Alex was and she left both of them to hang out with her friends.

Cam had a pep talk with the football team while Mitchell and Lily played games. He tried to show them how to be strong by slamming a sledge hammer test. Too bad the highest strength level he got was “girly man.

Manny fixed his cake and it was still amazing. Gloria felt bad and admitted she ruined the cake because she wanted him to have fun with the other kids. Gloria and Manny only had 1 minute to get to the cake contest so Manny handed her the cake and he started shoving and pushing through people. Cam saw him and knew he needed him for the football team.

When Claire and Phil got home his gift was waiting for him. She got him a performance by Chinese Acrobats and it was awesome (also clever since China is the gift for 20 year anniversaries). Well played Claire.

Manny won the cake contest and made the football team. They even won their game! Go Manny! The best part of it for Manny was how much the team loved his banana bread. You just have to love that kid.
