Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Carol Barbee
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on Writer and Producer Carol Barbee.
Carol was born in Concord, North Carolina and graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in Speech, Communications and Theater Arts. She followed that up with a degree in acting from UCLA.
For about 10 years from 1989 to 1998, Carol put her acting degree to work, appearing in episodes of TV shows like L.A. Law, Columbo, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Reasonable Doubts, Blossom, Delta, Northern Exposure, Beverly Hills 90210, Ellen and JAG. She also had small roles in the box office film Die Hard 2.
At the turn of the century, she shifted behind the camera, working as a writer, executive story editor and then producer on the drama Providence. She then moved over to the drama Judging Amy from 2003 to 2005, working as a writer, supervising producer and eventually executive producer on the show.
This led to her working as a writer and co-executive producer on the drama Close to Home in 2006 followed by her being a writer and executive producer on the fan favorite series Jericho from 2006 to 2008.
Over the next two seasons, she was a writer and executive producer on the short-lived series Swingtown and then was the executive producer on another short-lived series, The Beautiful Life: TBL.
In 2009, she was a writer and executive producer on the short-lived medical drama Three Rivers followed by her working as a writer and consulting producer on the remake of Hawaii Five-0 for the 2010-2011 TV season. And, last TV season, she was a writer and executive producer on the Kiefer Sutherland series Touch.
It was announced earlier this year that Carol will next work as a consulting producer on the fan favorite TNT alien apocalypse drama Falling Skies.
Carol is married to character actor Carlos Lacamara and they have two sons, Lucas and Diego. Fans can follow Carol on Twitter @CBarbee1.
