Dracula – 1.02 ‘A Whiff of Sulfur’

Dracula is utilizing VanHelsing’s talents in searching for a cure for his sunlight aversion.

We are given a glimpse of how Van Helsing and Vlad Tepes united. It is as true as now as then. “The enemy of my enemy, is my friend.” The two are bound in blood, hate and loss. Strong ties indeed. But, it makes me wonder. Who hates more? Who has lost more? And, who in the end will lead, because, there can be only one Alpha.

Mina practices her stitching and gets a few herself, however she worries about her skills. The young Miss Murray, proper be damned, accepts an invitation from Mr. Grayson and confesses her concerns. He offers an extraordinary bit of advice:
“When it comes to dreams, one may falter, but the only way to fail is to abandon them.” With those words ringing in her ears, Mina thrived in her examinations and progressed to the top of her class.
Point for the vampire.

Lady Jane has no idea that her prey is so close and seeks the vision of the Seers for better clarity. She is drawn in like a fly, into a web of unseen danger and accepts Mr. Grayson as a lover. Unfortunately, for her, he only has eyes for another.

Jonathan Harker’s money troubles are becoming rather embarrassing and when an position of attaché is offered by Mr.Grayson it seems all his worries are solved, or perhaphs just beginning. Despite his misgivings Harker accepts the post when one woman too many pays his way.
In his hour of victory, Jon stumbles badly. Mina overhears his true feelings. Newsboy completely expects her to be so bedazzled that his potential bride will seek more “womanly pursuits.”  He is truly doomed when she realizes in truth, no encouragement has ever passed his lips. That, my friend, is the sound of footsteps. Leaving your narrow-minded ass.

Mr. Grayson has decided he does not like partners, and makes an offer Lord Laurent can not refuse when certain inclinations are threatened with the light of day. With Mina he is more circumspect. It is a Gordian Knot indeed. How to love without injuring her with his corruption?  His determination is sure. Vlad will not loose her a second time. He will win her heart.
Lady Jane, despite her clues, cannot piece the puzzle together, but Dracula is in the know, and I’ve a feeling this spider plays with his food before dining.
