Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is focused on producers and screenwriters Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, who have worked as writing/producing partners in the entertainment industry for the past 13 years.
The ladies got their start as writers on the 2000 TV comedy Just Deal and they followed that up with writing on the short-lived 2001 TV comedy All About Us and on the short-lived 2002 WB drama Glory Days.
It was in 2002 that things changed for them when they became story editors for the fan favorite series Angel and the next TV season they became executive story editors for the show. In 2005, they became writers on the acclaimed drama The Shield and they worked their way up to co-producers and eventually producers on the FX series, staying with the show for two seasons.
In 2007, they were writers and executive producers on the short-lived drama Women’s Murder Club and a few years later they were writers and co-executive producers on the short-lived Joss Whedon series Dollhouse.
They followed that up by working as writers and consulting producers on Lie to Me, eventually becoming executive producers on the show during the 2009-2010 TV season. The following year, they were writers and consulting producers on The Vampire Diaries and they were executive producers on the pilot episode of the short-lived series The Secret Circle.
Most recently, they were the series creators and executive producers on The CW pilot The Selection, based on the Kiera Cass book of the same name, which was under consideration not only for the 2012 TV season but also in the 2013 TV season. They also worked as writers and consulting producers on the short-lived ABC series 666 Park Avenue.
Elizabeth and Sarah are also the authors of the 2007 novel “Bass Ackwards and Belly Up” and the 2009 sequel “Footfree and Fancyloose” that follow nine months in the life of four teenage best friends Harper, Becca, Kate and Sophie.
