SCANDAL Recap: Mellie’s Mouth
Let’s dive right into this weeks episode of Scandal, shall we?
Olivia sends Jake away – she is pretty sure she is safe and he is pretty sure she isn’t. Olivia’s reason, her Dad would never hurt her. Hmmm….I’m with Jake on this one. Liv’s Dad is a monster. “He would slit your throat and drink your blood if he thought it would serve the Republic.” She doesn’t care what Jake or I think though so goodbye Jake.
Lisa Kudrow made her mark on the episode as Congresswoman Marcus, a Democrat who may be throwing her hat in the ring as a contender for President. Mellie went and gave her a little leg up by bad mouthing Congresswoman Marcus when she thought she wasn’t mic’ed. Cyrus is pissed. The headlines are everywhere, “Worst Lady” “Mouthy Mellie”, etc… Because of Mellie the ‘flavor of the month’ potential candidate is now a legitimate problem/threat. They can’t afford to run against a woman. Thanks to the cheating scandal they have enough trouble keeping woman voters. Surprisingly Fitz comes to Mellie’s defense telling Cy, “We all make mistakes.” He even takes Mellie’s hand in a genuinely nice gesture.
Also in the episode, Fitz sees a blurb in the paper about the man Huck killed, Pete Foster. He of course recognizes him and manages to get the man buried at Arlington. In fact Fitz even makes an appearance at the funeral. James brings this to Cyrus’s attention thanks to the gravediggers Instagram showing Fitz at the grave side. Cyrus questions Fitz about attending the funeral. He advises Fitz to stop digging up the past, leave the past alone.
A new friendship of sorts was also formed tonight. Jake wants to team up with Huck to take down Command. Huck is less than enthusiastic about this idea at first. Jake isn’t dissuaded though and he spends quite a bit of time following Command. He brings his findings to Olivia about Pete Foster and Command but she wants nothing to do with it. Huck however wants something to do with it. He looks into the intel Jake left for Olivia and starts to put some things together.
Then something beautiful happens, Huck and Jake team up. They bring their joint intel to Olivia. Operation Remington was a rescue during the first Gulf War on Iranian soil. Jake says he was part of that mission, five on the ground and one flying above for air support. Olivia reasons the pilot was Pete Foster. Jakes says no, the pilot was Fitz. Even though Pete Foster was a Navy pilot and has the flight plan number from Operation Remington tattooed on him.
By the end of the episode Jake is back at Olivia’s. They do some holding; some here let me push that hair behind your ear and then some kissing. The kissing however is interrupted by Olivia’s phone. Wouldn’t you know its Fitz? Olivia takes the call and Jake takes the opportunity to speak up loudly, Fitz hears him (that was the point) and says Olivia has company he should go.
Fitz is calling Olivia from his car, after hanging up he gets out and we see he is at B613. He is there to see Command. A reunion he calls long overdue.
The case of the week is pretty irrelevant story wise. A Senator is accused of murdering the woman he was sexting with. The team doesn’t really want to take the case but they need the money. As Abby puts it, “Perving sexting pervy perv.” Turns out the Senator’s wife murdered the woman he was sexting. She thought there was only the one woman. She was not the only one and during the course of the trail she hears all about the other woman. She gets away with the murder though as Olivia is the only one that figures it out and she ends up saying nothing.
Few comments:
Abby and David are seeing each other again. Sort of. They can’t decide what they want to do or not do. It’s rather cute.
Harrison does a very adorable dance when he finds out they have a new client.
Quinn is invading everyone’s privacy now, including Hucks. She is on my last nerve. This chick was crying and whiney about her upheaval and being moved to DC just last season and now she is all in Huck’s business like she belongs there.
Just in case you are wondering about the connection Lisa Kudrow has to Shondaland, in real life she is the producing partner of Dan Bucatinsky who plays James.
