THE VAMPIRE DIARIES RECAP: TRUE LIES

This week’s episode had a lot going on! From Silas to Stephan, Matt and Bonnie, let’s get down to the nitty gritty!

We begin with Bonnie telling Jeremy about seeing her father die at the town meeting; she explained that since her Dad was human and not supernatural, he won’t be on the other side so she couldn’t see him again. Silas compelled everyone in town to forget that he killed Bonnie’s Dad. Jeremy was there for her and wanted to hug her but he couldn’t; he could only listen.

After leaving the accident, Katherine looked horrible! She was coughing, scratched up, and her hair looked like it was fresh out of a blender. A woman stopped to help her and when she saw her she realized she was the girl Silas was looking for. The woman maced Katherine and tried to call Silas. Katherine kicked her butt and smashed her phone. Not bad for a human! Matt snuck up behind her with a shotgun and there was nothing she could do.

Stefan had a dream where he and Elena were lying in the grass by a waterfall (which was totally Twilight-esque in my opinion). Elena asked why they were there, and he thought about all the good times they had. They kissed and then Elena started coughing up water and spitting (gross). Stephan started to wake up from this dream while he was still trapped under water.

At Whitmore, Caroline and Elena talked about Megan’s death in their room. They thought it was suspicious that her death certificate said that suicide was her cause of death. There was no mention of the vampire marks on her neck. Elena knew someone had to have forged her death certificate and wanted to know who it was. Dr. Wesley Maxfield’s name was on the certificate so Elena enrolled Caroline and herself in his microbiology class. Caroline was a little peeved because she is a drama major; she wanted to have fun her freshman year and make bad decisions about boys (sounds like normal freshman behavior to me). Elena told her they have to protect themselves from being exposed as vampires so Caroline got over herself and agreed.

Back in Mystic falls, Damon took Sheriff Forbes to the quarry. He had a hunch that Silas dropped Stefan there somewhere. Sheriff Forbes wanted to help but didn’t have the manpower or funds to search the whole quarry for someone who may/or may not be there. She told him she would the best she could.

Jeremy told Damon on the phone that Matt found Katherine, and that Silas compelled the town to hunt for an Elena Gilbert Look-A-Like. Damon told them to hide Katherine. If Silas wanted her that bad, he knew he could use her to get Stefan back.

Caroline and Elena go to Dr. Maxfield’s class and Jesse (the super hot guy who invited them to the party in last week’s episode) saw them and asked if Caroline was going to the bonfire that night. Before she could answer, Elena said she would be there. Dr. Maxfield started class and told everyone that Whitmore was founded as a hospital during the Civil War, and because disease was out of control, the bonfires started so they could burn dead bodies every week. EEWWW! That totally changes the whole image of a Bonfire for me. Caroline thought Dr. Maxfield was creepy but Elena thought he was hot. He noticed them talking and called on Elena to answer a question. She wasn’t able to answer and he told them it was because they were Freshman and shouldn’t be in his class. Super embarrassing!

Elena called Damon to tell him about her embarrassment and Damon couldn’t believe she didn’t compel or “torture” him. They laughed and she looked up and saw “Stefan.” She couldn’t believe it. “Stefan” told her to hang up the phone before Damon could tell her who he really was (he should have told her last week who he was instead of trying to keep everything from her, dumb move Damon). She hugged him and told him how worried she was about him. He wanted to make Damon look bad, so he told her that Jeremy was expelled, and that Damon and Jeremy got into a fight and Jeremy left (Silas was trying to find Jeremy because he knew Katherine was with him). Elena was pissed that Damon kept all that from her and that is exactly what Silas wanted. He asked her if she knew where Jeremy might go, and she told him about a place they used to go camping when they were young. Bingo!  

Damon showed up at dorms and caught Caroline in a towel. She got onto him for not knocking but he didn’t care. He filled her in about Silas/Stefan and told her to get dressed. They needed to find Elena ASAP.

 Damon found Silas alone and snatched him by the neck. He asked where Elena was and Silas told him he could see why he liked her, but didn’t understand her interest in him. “That’s because you haven’t had sex with me,” Damon said. Boom! How do you like that Silas? Hilarious! Silas wouldn’t tell him where Elena was but he would find out in due time (I have to say that I am loving Paul Wesley as Silas! He plays the bad guy really well and looks hot doing it).

At the bonfire, Elena was getting a beer with Jesse (did I mention how hot Jesse is! Whew!) and he told her he would give her the scoop on Dr. Maxfield if she helped him grab some firewood. He told her that there was a rumor that he was a part of some secret society on campus that met a few times a week at Whitmore House. Next thing you know Damon came out of nowhere and Whack! Damon knocked Jesse out (really Damon? was that even necessary?).

At the campsite, Jeremy stayed with a whining Katherine while Matt went to chop wood for a fire (doesn’t anyone watch scary movies? Never go in the woods alone because something bad will happen!) Silas found Matt and told him not to talk or scream but Matt could do both. He yelled for Jeremy to run and this through Silas for a loop. He didn’t understand why he wasn’t able to get into Matt’s head. He grabbed his head and saw Nadia (the threesome thief) and a man. He asked why they were watching him and snapped Matt’s neck! OMG!

Matt saw Bonnie (I thought is he really dead? But I knew he had his ring on) and found out that his ring brings him to the other side each time he dies. When he finds his body, he will return to it. Each time he dies, he starts off further away from his body and that’s why it takes longer to come back each time you die. Matt asked her how could he see her if he’s on the other side, and she had to break the news to him that she died. Then she shared with him that her Dad died also. He apologized and gave her the hug she really needed and she started crying.

In the dorms, Elena was all over Damon. She ripped off his shirt and then fed him some of the vervain-filled water. Then she tied him to the chair, and it was obvious that Silas was in her head. Silas wanted her to get Damon alone and weak, and then kill him. She gave him more of the water and he spit it out on her. She snapped out of her Silas trance for a moment and Damon filled her in about Silas. She wanted to know what happened to Stefan. Anger was her trigger so when she looked at Damon she wanted to kill him, so she had to fight the urge. She sat down and stabbed herself in the leg. Now that’s a distraction.

Caroline was holding a Popsicle up to Jesse’s face and apologized for her friend getting a little psycho. He tried to kiss her but she told him she had a boyfriend. He understood the long distance thing because he got screwed over by his ex-girlfriend (who was a long distance relationship too).

Damon told Elena about Bonnie’s Dad and she got mad that he didn’t check on her. He was a little busy with Silas and Jeremy. To get Silas out of her head she needed to feel something stronger than her urge to kill Damon. Damon told her to think of Stefan. She shared her feelings for Stefan and how she thought he was in pain. Although it was sad, it worked.  “We have to find him,” she said. Damon promised that they would.

Matt told Bonnie that she can’t keep her death a secret anymore. He knew once he returned to his body he would forget everything she told him. Matt touched his body and woke up with Katherine and Jeremy at his side. He couldn’t remember what happened and Jeremy explained that Silas tried to kill them both and Katherine shot him. Jeremy saw Bonnie and she told him that she wasn’t ready to be dead yet.  Jeremy said he’d tell everyone she was with family. No matter what, he was there for her.

After being shot, Silas went to the gas station. He took a knife and a cup and compelled the attendant to cut himself and fill up the cup with his blood. Just as he did, Nadia and her sidekick showed up. Silas referred to them as travelers but they were known as gypsies. The guy threatened to “gut” Silas. They used Matt to spy on Silas because they want Silas back in his tomb forever. Well that’s what the guy wanted, but Nadia took the knife and stabbed her sidekick in the throat. She had another agenda and whatever it was; Silas didn’t have a problem with it.

Elena wanted to go back to Mystic Falls to look for Stefan and check on Bonnie, so she was leaving Whitmore for awhile. Caroline was staying to find out what’s up with Dr. Maxfield (and hopefully what’s up with sexy Jesse too). Dr. Maxfield stopped by and told Elena that he didn’t think she would have given up so easily. He knew her Dad and said he was a legend at Whitmore. He said he studied all of his research and hopes to do the kind of work he did (what in the world was Elena’s father into?). She asked him if that meant her father forged death certificates like he did. Dr. Maxfield told her to come by his office the next day so they could chat. Too bad Elena was leaving. He told her to let him know when her scheduled cleared up (something strange is definitely going on with Dr. Maxfield).

Damon and came up to Elena and showed her that he got Stefan’s daylight ring back from Silas. Then he told her that her having psychic dreams about Stephan didn’t bother him but he wasn’t jumping for joy over it. He is secure in their relationship and that’s good. They kissed and she told him that she will still love him after they find Stefan. Aw!

Damon got a call from Sheriff Forbes. She said they didn’t find anything in the quarry but they found a huge safe not far from it; they didn’t open it because if Stefan was in there, he would be hungry. When Damon got there, they opened it and there was a dead body in it. Looks like Stefan was hungry and the Ripper has been set free.
