Flashback to Fall

By  |

Author’s Note: I wrote and posted the following piece here at NiceGirlsTV back in November of 2009, but revisiting my past as well as my remembrance of fall seemed like the right thing to do at this time of year; and of course, I have added on a few extras at the end.

Growing up on the East Coast, I experienced “the good, the bad and the ugly” of the ever-changing weather patterns. In springtime, my little hometown of Apollo (Pennsylvania) was much like a caterpillar escaping from its cocoon, turning into a beautiful butterfly after a long spell of the winter doldrums (i.e., the “bad”).

Fall Foliage

Then nearly as soon as spring arrived, summer would descend like a pack of locust, bringing with it extremely uncomfortable humidity and high temperatures reaching triple digit levels. This is the time of year I would deem as the “ugly”.

But the most wonderful time of the year (weather-wise) was fall. The temperature would start to cool off and the trees would turn amazing colors, blanketing the entire landscape with rich reds, vibrant oranges and amazing yellows. Just before all the leaves would fall to the ground, the world was like a wonderful kaleidoscope of colors. As you can imagine, I concerned this the “good” time to live on the East Coast.

I should also state unless you’ve actually experienced these changing weather patterns for yourself, there is nothing else quite like it.

The beauty of an East Coast fall is probably one of the main things I miss most about living back there. And while I couldn’t image giving up the life I have built for myself here in (mostly) sunny California, I do miss fall and have to admit that I am thankful for having grown up in my little hometown for that sheer experience (among other reasons).

But the one thing I love most about fall is – naturally – the Fall TV season on the major networks and all the great shows that come with it: new and returning. Each season there are plenty of returning favorites to savor for another year along with plenty of cool and interesting new shows for which to delve into deeply.

This TV season isn’t any different with my personal favorite returning shows, which include: Castle, Hart of Dixie, Beauty And the Beast, Person of Interest, Supernatural Arrow, Scandal, Once Upon a Time, Revenge and, in a few weeks, Grimm. As for the new shows, I am enjoying The Blacklist and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and looking forward to The Tomorrow People, Reign, Dracula, Almost Human and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Haven

That isn’t it, of course, as the cable networks may overload viewers with lots of programming options in the summer, but they also provide a fair share of programming in the fall too. Drop Dead Diva just returned this weekend along with the debut of Witches of East End while Covert Affairs and White Collar will be back on the USA Network in a little over a week; and, Haven returned to Syfy a few weeks ago.

Needless to say, there is a lot about fall to love, but I would love to hear what our readers’ most treasured memories of the fall? Please share below.
