Syfy Announces Additional Cast for Supernatural Drama Pilot Dominion

By  |

Syfy is working on a new supernatural drama pilot called Dominion and the cabler just announced some new cast members, including Buffy and Merlin alum Anthony Stewart Head.

Dominion is based on characters from the 2010 box office film Legion that starred Paul Bettany, as a fallen angel who teams with a group of strangers to protect humankind. The story will be set 25 years after the events of the movie, picking up in the aftermath of a catastrophic war between an army of angels and mankind that has transformed the world. The pilot will follow the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier who discovers he is the unlikely savior of humanity, set against a backdrop of the ultimate celestial battle as it touches down on Earth.

Head, who is known the world over as Rupert Giles, Buffy’s watcher on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and King Uther Pendragon on Merlin, will play David Weel, the power hungry President of the Senate of Vega (formerly Las Vegas), who is frequently at odds with General Rysen (Alan Dale of Lost fame), the city’s military leaders.

Other newly added cast members include:

• Actress Roxanne McKee, who appeared in the British series Hollyoaks and as Doreah in Game of Thrones, will play Claire Rysen, the daughter of General Rysen, the man who led humans to victory against the angels during the Extermination War.

• Actor Luke Allen-Gale, who had a recurring role in the recently defunct The Borgias and a small role in the box office film Captain America: The First Avenger, will play William Weel, the son of Head’s character, who is a man of the people and Head of the Church of the Savior.

• Actress Shivani Ghai, who appeared in the Bollywood musical Bride & Prejudice, the made-for-TV movie House of Saddam and the hit mini-series The Bible, will appear as Arika, a lead diplomat sent from Helena, who is a mysterious and militant matriarchal society in what was once Salt Lake City, which maintains a tenuous peace with Vega.

The cast of Dominion already includes actor Christopher Egan (Letters to Juliet and the short-lived TV series Kings) will play Alex Lannen, the aforementioned rebellious young solder and actor Tom Wisdom (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and the upcoming box office adaptation of Romeo and Juliet) will play Michael, the greatest of the warrior archangels, who was instrumental in helping humanity defeat the angels during the Extermination War.

Scott Stewart, who co-wrote and directed the original film Legion, will direct the pilot and will serve as one of the executive producers on the project. Michel Litvak and David Lancaster of Bold Films, who produced the original film Legion, will also serve as Executive Producers. The series is set to begin production this month in Cape Town, South Africa.

There is no word yet on whether Syfy will pick up this project to series, though.
