Rueben's Ramblings
Happy Labor Day!
So, what did everyone do yesterday for Labor Day? Did any of you folks have a picnic with friends and/or family? Did you take in a movie, and if so, which one? Did you stay at home to watch one of the many marathons scheduled for TV?
Whatever it is that you did for the holiday, I sure hope you all had a great day!
With that being said, I can segway into my reason for asking about everyone’s holiday plans besides the obvious – that Labor Day was yesterday, of course.
I AM ON VACATION!!!
Why am I writing that in all caps, seeming to be so excited?
Well, I haven’t had a real vacation – one that doesn’t require me to attend Wonder Con, Comic Con and/or Paley Fest (or the like), spending all my time in “press/writing mode” – in FIVE years!!
And, I am also back in Pennsylvania – in the very town where I was born and raised. Now granted I tend to be filled with anxiety when I make a trek from Los Angeles back to my little “hick” town in the middle of virtually nowhere (40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh to be exact); but for once this trip is not for a funeral (which have been far too plentiful in my family over the last 10 years, sad as that is to say) or an uncomfortable family gathering (i.e. a wedding – even though they are nice for the couple getting hitched – from what I hear anyway – wink!).
I am actually in Pennsylvania for an entire week to do what I want to do (GASP, I can’t believe I can say that without laughing or crying), including visits with my two oldest and dearest friends from grade school days, who I haven’t seen for FIVE years; meeting up with my now grown nieces and nephews (who I also haven’t seen in FIVE years) as well as meeting – for the first time I might add – my two-year old great nephew (my oldest nephew’s son) – and spending time with my wonderful aunt and uncle – again, who I haven’t seen in FIVE years.
For many folks who visit NiceGirlsTV, a summer or fall (or any time of the year in fact) vacation might be a regular occurrence for you; but for me that just hasn’t been the case due to factors beyond my control. But, thankfully, those penny-pinching days are behind me now and I can finally enjoy a week OFF.
That doesn’t mean that I won’t be watching television every night of my vacation of course. That would just be cruel and unusual punishment for a TV fan like me; and I’m sure our readers can totally relate, right?
And, when I get back to Los Angeles, the countdown to the fall TV season will begin in earnest with only two short weeks to go before all of the major networks start rolling out their new and returning programming to the mass horde of viewers who will be awaiting some fun and entertaining shows to watch.
Let’s just hope that Time Warner and CBS can work out their troubles or else there will be some VERY unhappy people marching on both institutions – if they haven’t already been doing that enmass over the last couple of weeks, right?
Regardless, I hope everyone had a terrific Labor Day weekend or week if you also took some time off!
