Web Series Spotlight: Just Us Guys and 82893 Productions

Just Us Guys (Scott and Max)

Last fall, writer Chris Lilly, the staff of 82893 Productions and a collection of volunteers filmed four episodes of “Just Us Guys”, a TV-web series dramedy about a gay father who has a ‘Gilmore Girls’ like relationship with his straight teenage son. The four webisodes are designed to be a prequel for an intended one hour TV show that Lilly is still working on bringing to the small screen at a future date either as an actual series or more webisodes.

The webisodes were directed by Tony Oliver and starred the following new faces:

Daniel Marks, Jr. as Scott, the gay dad;
Matthew Boehm as Max, Scott’s straight son;
Charlie Smith as Sean, Max’s best friend;
Claudia Dibbs as Amy, Scott’s right-hand girl at the comic book store he owns and manages;
Phylicia Goings as Elsie, the new comic book store employee (more on her shortly);
Todd Lanker as Dylan, Scott’s “friend” who works at their favorite bar/restaurant; and,
Daniel MK Cohen as Gary (a diehard comic collector).

The four webisodes of “Just Us Guys” are entitled “Call Me, Maybe”; “The New Girl”; “Are You a Geek or a Nerd” and “Where the Bartender Knows Your Name”. The first webisode debuted this past March (with a new episode airing one each following week) shortly after an exclusive screening was held in Los Angeles in February.

Those four webisodes of “Just Us Guys” can be viewed here.

In addition to furthering “Just Us Guys”, Chris and 82893 Productions are currently developing a spin-off series based on the character of Elsie that will be coming out sometime next year. The untitled spin-off will focus on the new comic book store employee who is “a geek/nerd with a feisty attitude and who is (also) slightly OCD”.

Just Us Guys #3

The number one goal of 82893 Productions is to create content specifically “content that strives to be unique”. Their first project “Just Us Guys” was selected to participate in the 2013 Comic-Con International Film Festival, beating out hundreds of other short films to be part of the 50 films that were screened at the annual fete.
