SHERLOCK: First Ever Comic Con Panel [Photos]
While Melissa frantically tweeted throughout the Sherlock panel at Comic Con, Mynda was snapping away at the panel. We got some great photos and interesting bits about our favorite genius detective. Taking the stage were series creator Stephen Moffet, co-creator Mark Gatiss.
Highlights from the panel include:
- Oddly enough American reaction to “Sherlock” has been subdued;
- Moriarity is truly dead but the actor, Andrew Scott, will return for some scenes;
- Modern day setting is a non-issue for the show;
- No plans to take Sherlock to another country but it would be interesting to do;
- Story ideas come from fun conversations that start with “what if….?”;
- Watson’s blog is the modern version of him writing stories for The Strand;
- There are hints that Mycroft is brilliant but lazy.
When the floor was opened for fan’s questions a fan asked ‘Did they put technology into show to appeal to sci fi audience.’ The answer: In books, Sherlock was on cutting edge of Victorian technology. Another fan asked something about Watson always being taller than Sherlock. Answer: “Watson was always shorter. Benedict so short, they had to get a Hobbit.
Moffit and Gatiss reminisced about dreadful location in season 1 and being trapped in a snowstorm ‘of Biblical proportions,’ then Martin (Freeman) slipped on his porridge.
Moffat talked about the difference between filming season 1 with relatively unknown actors vs international movie stars in season 3, and that was a wrap for this panel.
Sherlock is not expected back on American television until 2014 but already there are hints at a fourth season. Huzzah!
