NICE BOY OF THE WEEK: Michael Weatherly
The Nice Boy of the Week is actor Michael Weatherly, who is, of course, one of the stars of the long-running CBS procedural NCIS.
Michael was born in New York City, but was raised in Fairfield, CT. He spent some time at American University, but left college to pursue acting; and he also had a passion for music, playing in a band while pursuing this acting career.
His first professional acting gig was in a 1991 guest role on The Cosby Show followed by an appearance on the daytime soap Guiding Light. From 1992 to 1996 he appeared in the daytime soap Loving that later became The City. In 1998, he landed a role in the short-lived series Significant Others that included among its cast Jennifer Garner (Alias), Eion Bailey (Once Upon a Time) and Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost and Revolution). That same year, he had a small role in the box office movie The Last Days of Disco that starred Chloe Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale as well as starring as Christina Applegate’s ex-husband on the short-lived comedy Jesse.
The following year Michael appeared in an episode of the long-running supernatural series Charmed as well as an episode of The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. That same year he appeared in the made-for-TV movie Winding Roads followed by the 2000 made-for-TV movie Cabin by the Lake. He also appeared in an episode of Ally McBeal that year.
It was in the fall of 2000 that his acting career changed, as he was cast in the popular FOX drama Dark Angel that earned him two Saturn award nominations and a Teen Choice Award nomination. This cult favorite was only on the air for two seasons, but certainly got Michael noticed; allowing him to segway into a short recurring role on JAG that lead to his role on spin-off series NCIS for the past 10 TV seasons.
During that time, Michael starred in the made-for-TV movie The Mystery of Natalie Wood, playing legendary actor Robert Wagner (who, ironically – or not – appears as his father on NCIS). He also recently made a guest appearance in an episode of the new TNT series Major Crimes.
Michael was married to soap actress Amelia Heinle for two years (1995 to 1997) and they had a son in 1996. He was briefly engaged to Dark Angel co-star Jessica Alba and then in 2009 he married Bojana Jankovic, a Serbian professional basketball player, with whom he has a daughter and another baby on the way this fall.
Fans should make sure to mark their calendars to watch Michael and the rest of the cast of NCIS in the show’s upcoming season finale that is set to air on CBS on May 14 at 8/7c.
