MODERN FAMILY Recap: Flip Flop

Two main stories tonight so we are going break them up accordingly…

Home Sweet Home: The family is looking at the house that Claire and Cam have been renovating. It is finally all ready to be sold. Phil proposes a toast and says they have buyers coming over to look at it tomorrow. Jay is sure it will sell in no time.
Gil Thorpe (the best realtor in town) meets with Phil for lunch. He has a buyer for the house and he pushes a number across the table to Phil. It is not an okay number, it’s very very low. He tells Phil he will regret it if he passes on this offer. Phil will hear none of it though, he is going to sell the house himself!
Two months later and the house still hasn’t sold.
Gil has called back with another offer, but it’s lower than the last offer and they don’t’ want to accept it. Mitchell seriously wants to say, “I told you so!” but he is being a good boy and keeps that to himself. He gives his rant to the camera though.
Claire wants Phil to get Gil Thorpe back up to his original offer. She is sure Phil can figure out a way to get it done.
Phil calls Thorpe and Thorpe is not gracious. He calls Phil a ukulele, “small and dainty”. Phil tells Thorpe he wants to talk about the offer but Thorpe has some unappealing things to say to him. Thankfully Luke speaks up again saying he has a friend who is still looking to buy a house. Earlier when he said it the adults didn’t take him seriously but this time Luke says Zach isn’t a kid, he is a software guy who works at their school. Suddenly he has everyone’s attention.
Maybe too much attention from Phil who tells Thorpe this was just a curtesy call, he has another buyer and he lost this deal because he was cocky and overplayed his hand. Cam, Mitch and Claire are all shaking their heads and trying to get him to just hang up.
Phil gets off the phone and calls Zach. They make an appointment for this evening. Phil is worried though because he doesn’t know anything about Zach so Haley pulls Zach up on line. Age, college (MIT) likes, pets, etc…She sees he has a dog named Otis that he loves and tells them to put in a doggie door.

Cam: But with better hair
They have two hours to turn the house into Zach’s dream house.
At the open house for Zach they have decorated overboard to fit his online profile persona. Cam, Mitch, Phil, Clair and Haley are all there. Haley is even wearing black tights because after looking at everything on his profile she has decided she is in to him and he has a thing for girls in black tights.
Zach loves the house, he thinks it is the perfect. Unfortunately Cam takes it one step too far and comments on how at home Otis will be there. Zach wants to know how they know his dog’s name and they can’t come up with a good cover/excuse. In fact they continue to go too far when Haley mentions his birthday is coming up. He freaks out and leaves.
While they are trying to recover from “losing Zach” the doorbell rings, it’s Thorpe. Phil says he is just finishing up showing the house to his buyers. Cam and Mitchell pretend to just love the house and are so excited about it’s many great features.
Thorpe: Damn it, gays. They come to play.
Thorpe tells Phil not to accept any offers because his buyers want in. Phil pats him on the shoulder and walks him to the door saying the same inappropriate things Thorpe said to him on the phone earlier.
Can I take a moment to say how nice Phil looks in a suit?

Look Who’s Coming for Dinner: At home Gloria is in a tizzy because Javier (Manny’s Dad) has taken his latest bimbo on the one weekend a year he has Manny.
Javier lets himself into Jay and Gloria’s house with Manny in tow. Gloria lays into Javier about bringing another girl on a trip with Manny. She asks if she is a cocktail waitress or a stripper and in walks Paget Brewster who says, “No, I’m just a PHD.” Trish is glad to meet them and Manny is pretty excited about Trish because she is on the board at the Metropoitan Musem of Art. Manny got an after hours tour and he couldn’t be happier.
Gloria however is clearly jealous.
Jay is showing Trish his “art”. It’s his lifesizes waiter dog that Gloria hates. Trish clearly doesn’t like it either but she is doing a nice job of pretending. The rest of the family agrees with Trish and Javier gives this over the top take on how the dog represents the class system in society. You think Gloria was upset before…
Jay and Javier are playing charades against Trish and Manny. No one wanted Gloria on their team but she wasn’t going to sit this one out when Manny was so excited about Trish playing. Trish and Manny kick some serious butt while Gloria struggles to get one pantomime correct. Gloria stomps out of the room and runs right into the Waiter Dog. Did I mention she was upset?
Jay follows Gloria into the kitchen to see what on earth is wrong. Gloria is jealous, just one weekend and Manny already idolizes Trish. Gloria is worried she is going to be replaced. Jay scoffs at that. Javier choses that time to come into the kitchen and tell Gloria he proposed to Trish that weekend and he needs his Grandmothers ring back. He gushes about how Trish is the most fantastic women he has ever known.
Dinner is getting ready to be served when Javier announces to Manny that he and Trish are getting married. Manny is happy happy. Javier gets down on one knee and pulls out his Grandmothers ring. It doesn’t fit Trish’s finger though and she says she can’t do this, it will never work before bursting into tears and running from the room.
Trish has shut herself in one of the bedrooms in Jay and Gloria’s house. Javier is banging on the door but she won’t come out. Gloria says she will talk to her. She actually tries to talk her out of marrying Javier by bringing up all of his bad traits. Turns out that’s not it, Trish is worried about Gloria. How can she compete with Gloria who Manny says is the World’s Best Mom and who Javier regrets loosing. Gloria can’t help but smile and welcomes Trish to the family.
