COMMUNITY: Economics of Marine Biology

By  |

It’s another week at Greendale and this week, it seems that Dean Pelton is after a Whale to keep the school flush long after Pierce drops dead. This plan can go nowhere good, I can already tell.

The idea of Dean Pelton using The Greendale Seven Six to try and recruit a really dumb whale – a rich dumb student – to come to Greendale is hilarious. There’s money in it for everyone – Annie’s Forensics club, Britta’s Biology club – and even time to avoid being around Pierce for Jeff.

There’s also some really bad product placement by Dean Pelton for Let’s potato chips, which only reminds me of Utz and how it’s been used in Mad Men.

Jeff, as usual, rejects Pierce’s invitation for going to get a great shave, and then the Six are working hard to find just the right mix of whatever this kid, Archie, would need to come there. Somewhere in the conversation of the School Board about what the tour should be, Abed gets the idea of some frat, one that feels very reminiscent of the Deltas from Animal House.

Shirley’s PE class is not actually a PE class, but I class in how to teach PE. It’s getting a little meta already. Troy isn’t doing well already here, whereas Shirley is doing great.

Jeff, for the sake of Archie’s tour, is going to take one for the team and goes off with Pierce, so that Archie will enroll. Too bad, City College gave him a Vespa before. Britta and Annie are now in charge of finding a way to reel Archie in.

Back in PE Education, Shirley and Neil are in charge of picking players like they would be chosen in a game, which only leaves Troy last man picked – much to his shock. He’s really not cut out for the teaching of PE.

Abed’s got a whole group of Delta Cubes and as soon as the Dean sees them, they all run off. The Delta Cubes shouldn’t be hard to find with their diapers and pacifiers.

This trip to the barber shoppe is revealing that Jeff might actually like hanging out with Pierce, perish the thought.

Moreover, Shirely’s still thriving at PE Education and Troy’s still failing. For a guy who was an athlete his whole life, I don’t think this is easy for him to take. Or watch. Troy’s crying as he tries the mocker room simulation.

Too bad for Jeff that Annie sends a text that says they need Pierce off campus longer. Now Pierce is just disappointed in Jeff, even after they had a great day.

Archie has agreed to attend Greendale and even stolen Magnitude’s “Pop Pop!”. There’s something to be said for hunting a whale, but not when it comes to destroying so many things that make Greendale Greendale.

Pelton is very much “All for Greendale” from the Whale money, but Annie’s now having serious second thoughts. Jeff even comes to Pierce’s defense (ZOMG!), but now Magnitude’s been up all night looking for a new catch phrase and now Pelton’s nervous.

After Troy spent too much time looking for his keys in the mocker room, Shirley and Troy work together to teach Kevin how to do PE. That’s taught the PE E teacher something.

Archie slept in the cafeteria all night (and half the day), but now Pelton’s got the balls to say that Greendale’s staying Greendale and with Pelton’s little speech about not giving into Archie’s whim, Archie’s really going to come to Greendale now. He’s tired of being kowtowed to.

To end on a note that perhaps Pierce might not be the worst human in the world, Jeff walks back into the barber shoppe to say that he’ll be coming back time and time again.

As if the episode wasn’t bizarre enough, now the tag is a fight between Britta and Troy over which chips to eat. I will give the show points for having Troy claim the headache after Britta’s chip preference and slamming the laptop shut.
