How is the 2012-2013 TV Season Doing Now?
As fall has quickly moved into winter, the TV season has also continued to move forward with a few more cancellations announced as well as additional episodes being added to the series orders for new shows airing on the major networks.
First, let’s take a look at the shows that have been pulled from the line-up, starting with the FOX medical drama The Mob Doctor, which has been hanging on by a thread since nearly its debut in September. The final four episodes of The Mob Doctor will be burned off on December 29 and December 31 as well as on January 5 and January 7.
In the comedy world, CBS has decided to drop the axe on the new sitcom Partners mainly due to the fact that it has been a weak spot on the normally strong Monday night line-up. But the remaining episodes that have already been filmed will not be aired, as the network has decided to schedule reruns of other comedies until they decide on their mid-season programming.
Elsewhere, ABC has decided to not move forward with the new dramas Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue, but unlike CBS both shows will get to continue their 13-episode runs rather than being pulled, rather unceremoniously, from the line-up. The only silver lining for the fans of both shows is that the powers that be behind both series had enough time to attempt to work out a conclusion for each.
Lastly, Emily Owens, M.D., the new medical drama on The CW, has been cancelled; but it would appear that the remaining episodes will continue to air on the network since new episodes are scheduled to start on January 1.
As for the good news, ABC has decided to pick up their new music-based drama Nashville for a full season as well as ordering additional episodes of the new sitcom Malibu Country and the returning comedy Last Man Standing.
Meanwhile over on The CW, they decided to give a full season order to the new drama Beauty And the Beast, which has done better in terms of ratings than Emily Owens, M.D. but has not bowled over the ratings like the network’s other new drama Arrow.
Then there is the big winner – thus far – this TV season: NBC. Not only has the network surprised everyone by reaching the top of the ratings charts after many years at the bottom, but it also won its first November sweeps period in nine years. With that being said, the network also ordered five more scripts for the returning sitcom Whitney, but also gave their new drama Chicago Fire a full-season order despite a rocky start.
TV viewers should now keep in mind that with Christmas only two weeks away (YIPES!), all of the major networks will be putting their regular programming on hold to air holiday specials and/or repeats of their current shows. But, be ready for the return of all your favorite shows starting in January.
