SCANDAL Recap: White Hats Off or Wait…what just happened?
So…Scandal…Holy Mother of Pearl! Quinn is The Molotov Mistress. Did I already say Holy Mother of Pearl? I did? Let’s try For the Love of all that is Good this time then. Yeah, still quite shocked. She’s so meek and I mean I know people can change, at least I hope they can because someday I’m hoping Johnny Messner changes into a guy that lives in Seattle and wants to date fluffy girls. But to be accused of seven murders…SEVEN? How do you change from that to Quinn? I suppose I should call her Lindsay from now on?
Oh wait, she says she didn’t do it. I may have overreacted. I’ll get back to you…
The DA is trying the case against Quinn/Lindsay. Olivia firmly believes Quinn/Lindsay didn’t do the crime. Not all of her office is sure, mainly Abby. What they are sure of is Olivia knows something she isn’t sharing that is making her believe Quinn/Lindsay.
The teams only hope of getting Quinn/Lindsay out of this is to find the real bomber. If only it was that simple. Of course it isn’t that simple…partly because Quinn/Lindsay, would it be weird if I started calling her Quinsay like Bennifer or Bradjelina? Hmmm…Quinsay fires Olivia and company. She has a new lawyer who is going to get her a plea deal. She doesn’t want to be found guilty and get the death penalty. I’m not saying I would like the idea of the death penalty hanging over my head either but having seen Olivia in action I’m not sure I would doubt her ability to make this work either.
Thankfully Quinsay doesn’t act like an idiot too long and hires Olivia back. Turns out it was a good idea to rehire Olivia because after making a behind doors phone call the judge dismisses the case against Quinsay.
As for The President, his wife is pregnant, about 6 months along. It has done wonders for his campaign even if he doesn’t seem very happy. If he isn’t very happy it is because his wife keeps calling their unborn child “America’s Baby” and because he hasn’t seen Olivia since she fixed this whole sex scandal mess from last season. Mellie goes as far as to try to sway her husband’s mind on the possible war in Sudan but making comments in a live news show that suggest he should invade. This leads to one hell of a fight where he calls her ornamental and not functional. She looks pissed. I don’t know why he feels it is a good idea to piss on the one person who apparently can ruin his life at her whim.
The irony of calling his wife ornamental and not functional is he makes a late night call to Olivia who gives him her opinion on foreign policy and he welcomes it. How can Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn have chemistry when they aren’t even in the same room together?
And then there is Cyrus, anyone that can hire a hitman to have a woman taken out and discuss the payment of said transaction while pruning roses should not be likeable. However, there are times, like his 5 minutes in the park he spends with Olivia once a week to get her opinion on how to get The President to go to war with Sudan, when I forget for a moment that he is a cold hearted bastard.
And that is ultimately why I like this show. I don’t want to like the man who has people murdered, I don’t want to like the manipulative wife and I definitely don’t want to like the guy that sleeps with a woman while he is married to another woman and claims to be in love with yet another woman. Somehow though these people I want to despise have likeable qualities that keep me hooked.
Maybe I should mention the case of the week. Congressman Shaw from “the great state of Rhode Island” found a video recording device in his office. The device probably caught him having relations with a woman, on his desk. Enter Olivia.
The sex tape was emailed to a blog who plans on airing it in less than 24 hours. The team jumps into action to stop this, because that is what. they. do.
They decide to get ahead of the scandal, leak the sex tape themselves and spin the publicity. He is single and the woman is single, so he got caught, he should use the media attention to get his issues heard. It works brilliantly.
Oh okay, you know how I freaked out at the beginning of this recap? How I lost it a little bit, the end was even more shocking. Olivia was behind Lindsay becoming Quinn. Now the question is who hired Olivia to make that happen?
This is going to be a wild ride.
Scandal airs Thursday 10/9c on ABC
