NICE BOY OF THE WEEK: Colin O’Donoghue

Colin O’Donoghue in ‘The Rite’

Colin O’Donoghue is a native of the Emerald Isle, specifically Drogheda, Co. Louth. This Irish boy was just cast in the role of ‘Captain Hook’ for Season 2 of ‘Once Upon a Time’.

hookglassesHe attended The Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin, and traveled to Paris at the age of 16 just to learn the language. He’s done extensive Theatre work in Ireland and England, but has recently worked in several American productions, making a name for himself in the US.

Colin won the Irish Film and Television Award for “Best New Talent” for his role as Norman in “Home For Christmas” in 2003.

His first big-budget Movie role was opposite Anthony Hopkins in ‘The Rite‘. He plays Michael Kovak, the son of a mortuary owner. Disillusioned with his father, he decides to enter a seminary school and abdicate his vows upon completion, which will earn him a free college degree.

He is also known for his portrayal of Duke Phillip in Season 3 of ‘The Tudors‘. His character is the nephew of Count Palatine, who came to London from Germany to woo Princess Mary Tudor. Mary had no intentions of marrying, but entered into a short courtship with Phillip. It would have been a strategic partnership, but Duke Phillip came to care for Mary – although their pairing never occurred.

O’Donoghue is not only a talented thespian, he plays guitar and sings vocals in a band called “The Enemies”.

I can’t wait to see his take on Captain Hook on ‘Once Upon a Time’, and I’m looking forward to seeing more from this cutie!

Karen Lindsay, often teased as being "obscurely famous," talks a lot. (i.e. she podcasts). Her current and past projects involve television shows like "Chuck", "Castle", "Orphan Black", "Farscape", "Supergirl", "Lucifer" and many others. She's an avid gamer, reader, & collector of all things shiny - and while you may not think those things go hand-in-hand, they sometimes do. So don't ask her about how many pets she has in Warcraft. (or how shiny they are).
