ALPHAS Recap: Gods and Monsters
Washington DC, Rosen and Laura are talking or more like pushing Lauren Holly’s character. They are having her recall and destroy all August Medical information and products.
They leave the Senator but before they can get more than a few words out they hear horns honking. The Senator is standing in the middle of the street. Laura runs out and grabs her. Laura sends her home but they are worried she may not be alright.
High school dance, not so popular guy, Jason – as in Jason the coma patient from two episodes ago, wants to know if the popular girl wants to hang out sometime. Popular girls boyfriend and his friends “remove” Jason from the party and threaten him, push him into lockers, basic high school bullying.
Next thing you know Jason has used his ability on all of the kids…he has them all telling Lisa (the popular girl) that he just wants to talk to her. As soon as she gets outside Jason touches her face and she is under his ability as well.
At the office Kat brings Dr. Rosen the police report and tells him there are two kids from the high school in the situation room. This makes me think I could use a situation room…I’m not sure what I would do in said room but I would like to say things like, “Care to join me in the situation room?” and “I’ll be with you in a moment, if you could just wait in the situation room.”
Anyway, Kat would like to be a probationary agent but Rosen says she should be focusing on her memory issues.
Bill comes limping into the office, another late night at fight club. He tells Rosen he has cleared the team and Kat but he is still working on finding the leak with their support staff and friends and family.
Nina has done a scan of the high school kids; their brain patterns are identical, which is almost impossible. Clearly the work of an Alpha, Jason’s ability has grown.
Nina pauses for a second; she can just barely hear an infrasonic field that the kids are emitting.
Stanton is meeting with Rosen’s daughter Danni. She is worried about her Dad. Stanton told her he was going to bring Rosen around to their way of thinking but so far they are even farther apart than before. Stanton assures her like any good cult leader would he pats her hand and speaks in fortune cookie phrases. Danni gets a little upset. Stanton promised her Rosen would be part of their plan…he hems for a moment and then tells her there might be a way.
In the office Hicks tells Laura and Rosen he can’t get ahold of Jason’s parents. Rosen wants him to keep trying. He explains that Jason has always been ostracized for his ability; the side effect to his ability is a feeling of unease by anyone near him so now Jason is making everyone want to be his friend. Hicks makes a Star Trek comment about The Borg, which is awesome.
Rosen says that no drug he is giving the kids is working to bring them out of this “trance”. Laura says she can try pushing them. She does and it doesn’t work. *Insert sweet little moment where Hicks rushes over and grabs her arm as she sways to make sure she is okay.* In fact she can almost hear dozens of others fighting back against her pushing. Rosen is going to go to the school to see if Jason’s teachers have an idea of where he is.
At the high scho0ol Rosen notices that a number of kids are acting the same. He calls Bill to tell him he thinks Jason is there at the school. Bill says they are on their way. No sooner does Rosen hang up than Jason sees him and says hi. He and Rosen walk and talk. Jason says he is doing great, so much better than before. As Rosen is walking and talking with Jason a bunch of kids start following them. Kids surround Rosen as Jason and the popular girl walk off. Rosen gets away from them and circles back to Jason. Jason freaks out and touches a cop; the cop points his gun at Rosen. Jason says Rosen wants to take his friends away; he has to promise he will leave them alone or he will have the cop pull the trigger.
Just before the cop can shoot Rosen Stanton Parrish shows up and knocks the cop out. Jason and the rest of the kids run off. Stanton tells Rosen they should talk.
Rosen is on the phone with Bill, Rosen says he is talking to the school psychologist. We see it’s actually an Asian guy with Rosen’s voice on the cell phone walking in front of Rosen and Stanton who are talking. Stanton says Jason’s actions are putting Alphas at risk. Rosen says he figured Stanton would be celebrating considering what he accomplished with Jason.
Stanton then starts to lecture Rosen. Apparently this is Rosen’s fault. He interrupted Jason’s “therapy”, he failed to notice Jason was unstable because he was focused on shutting down August Medical and he neglected Jason’s follow up care. Rosen says he wouldn’t have needed any of that if Stanton hadn’t twisted Jason into what he is now.
Stanton wants Rosen to help him stop Jason before he gets hurt. Rosen says that is what he is doing. Stanton has all of his notes on Jason and he will share them with Rosen if he will just get into the van that pulls up. Rosen says he has his own team and goes to walk away. Stanton calls after him that he likes the building where Danni has a flat, it’s such an old building though, it would be a shame if something happened to it. Rosen stops, turns around and gets into the van.
On TV Senator Burton is being interviewed on the news. She is answering questions but suddenly she looks at the reporter and asks him if he is her friend before telling him she has to go home.
Laura is in her office watching the news and trying to get someone on the phone about where the Senator is staying. Nina sees this and comes into Laura’s office, shuts the door and wants to know what is going on.
Rosen and Stanton are at an old warehouse where Jason’s Mother is. She is under Jason’s “trance” as well, except she has a dozen hematomas in her brain. She is going to die if they don’t get her to a hospital. Rosen says all of Jason’s “victims” will start to get the hematomas and die pretty soon. Stanton says they better get to work then.
Back in the office Laura is showing Nina a file that she wants to give The Senators doctors. The Senator has been admitted to the hospital for exhaustion. Nina says they should loop Dr. Rosen in first before they do anything. She calls Rosen’s cell phone and even though it is Rosen’s voice that answers she can tell it isn’t him. She hangs up on the person and tells Nina that wasn’t Dr. Rosen.
Stanton and Rosen are trying to figure out a way to neutralize Jason. Stanton wants Rosen to use Nina to push Jason, hopefully severing the connection Jason has over the others.
Nina and the team call Rosen’s cell phone back. Nina calls out the guy who answers as not being Rosen. They are narrowing it down where he is through Gary’s ability and Nina’s hearing. Stanton hands Rosen the phone. He tells Stanton that as soon as Jason is no longer a threat he will let Stanton go, he will make sure he isn’t detained.
Rosen has Gary look for an infrasonic cluster so they can track down Jason. They find him at a classmate’s house.
Jason is telling the popular girl to take her clothes off. She starts to, but then he tells her to stop, he wants her to want to do this. She says she wants to do it and he says no she doesn’t.
The team shows up and all of the kids in the party stop and look at them. Hicks is a little freaked out by this but they continue back into the bedroom. Jason says he didn’t touch the girl, he really likes her but this isn’t her. Hicks says he wants to help Jason but he has to come with them. Jason says okay and all is well until they get outside and Jason sees Clay’s tactical team pull up. He gets freaked out and runs as the all of his “minions” come rushing outside. Gary says the kids are like ants, they are swarming. The kids take over the whole team except Gary who actually gets away and starts to chase Jason down. Hicks gets away next and runs after Gary and Jason. Gary is about to catch up with Jason but he uses his ability and poor Gary gets punched in the nose. Down goes Gary. Hicks however is still right behind Jason. He uses his ability to throw a tranquillizer dart at Jason. As soon as Jason is down, Hicks grabs him and the team pulls up in their minivan. They drive away with the minions running after them.
Is there really no money in the budget for a new SUV? Their minivan is really quite awful.
Back in the office the team gets introduced to Stanton Parrish, they don’t seem too happy.
Stanton wants Nina to use her ability to make Jason feel something that will distract him long enough to disrupt his control over all of the other people. First though Rosen is going to try to reason with him.
Bill and Hicks take Stanton to a cell, even though Rosen told them to escort him out of the building. Before they can get very far though Gary confronts Stanton and accuses him of killing Anna. Stanton says that it wasn’t what he wanted but Rosen didn’t stop it in time. He basically says Rosen is bad for Alphas.
Rosen comes down to the cell. He tells Stanton he doesn’t trust him, this whole showing today was just a recruitment exercise. Stanton wants to recruit Rosen. Stanton smiles and says we would make a great team. Rosen says it will never happen, he should never have threatened Danni and he walks away.
Stanton starts talking to his guards after getting a cup of water from them. He folds up the plastic cup and stabs himself in the neck falling to the ground.
While this is going on Rosen is talking to Jason. He tells Jason his Mother is in a coma and that will start happening to all of his “friends”. Jason doesn’t believe him. He just really wants to go now.
The main lights go out as all of Jason’s minions show up at the office. There are hundreds of them.
Back in the cell Stanton comes too as one of the guards is leaning over him, he snaps his neck and shoots the other guard. So that’s not good. It gets worse as he grabs a key card from one of the downed guards and a nine millimeter.
Nina gets to Jason’s interrogation room to find him no longer there. Rosen finds Parrish and Jason. Jason looks relieved to see Rosen. He says that Parrish told him he would help him escape but he didn’t. Something is wrong. Rosen says that is because Parrish is trying to take control of Jason’s minions. Rosen holds out his hand to Jason and tells him to bring him into the fold. Rosen is suddenly at the dance with all of the people Jason has control over…except Stanton is slowly taking them away from Jason, one by one. Stanton tells Rosen that it was a failsafe he put in. He didn’t actually think Stanton would create something like this without being able to control it, did he? Ohhh…Stanton needs to be put down.
Rosen tells Jason to let the people go, trust him; it will not be like it was before. Stanton keeps telling Jason Rosen isn’t like them and he can’t understand what it’s like. Jason does the right thing and lets everyone free.
When it is down to Stanton and Rosen though Rosen grabs Stanton and he starts to see all of these random things, a civil war battle, an address on an old mailbox, Skylar (Summer Glau) and for a brief moment we see Sean Astin’s face.
Rosen helps Jason up and thanks him for making a difficult choice. It looks like Stanton managed to shoot out a window in the room he was in and get away.
In the office Nina and Laura are talking about a few of the kids asking Nina out. They laugh about it and this is the first time I have seen them to be friends in a long time. Nina asks Laura if she would like to have a drink, but Laura says she needs a rain check, she has something she needs to do. She is holding the file she wants to give to The Senators doctor.
Hicks and Rosen are getting ready to leave. Hicks wonders how Stanton knew the layout of the building. As they go to leave Rosen looks up and sees a picture in Hicks office. It is one that Danni just finished, except Rosen saw it being completed in the flashes of memory he got from Stanton. Rosen realizes that Danni is the leak and we fade to black.
