ABC Family
NICE BOY OF THE WEEK: Nick Roux
While Nick Roux is fairly new to the world of acting, he has certainly made waves, of the good kind, on the new ABC Family dramedy Jane by Design. He plays bad boy with a golden heart Billy Nutter, who is the best friend of Jane Quimby (Erica Dasher). Jane is leading a double life as a high school outsider and a twenty-something career girl in the fashion world. Billy, as her best buddy of the non-romantic kind (at least for now) has been helping her conceal the truth until, of course, Jane’s brother learns the truth.
Prior to working on Jane by Design, Nick appeared in the 2011 Disney made-for-TV movie Lemonade Mouth, which was written by April Blair, who is the executive producer and series creator of Jane by Design. The film focused on five high school freshman who meet in detention and go on to create a successful rock band called – what else? – Lemonade Mouth. Nick’s part in the film wasn’t as a lead, but his character Scott Pickett played in the rival band Mudslide Crush and liked Lemonade Mouth member Mohini “Mo” Banjaree (Naomi Scott).
Nick’s first acting work came in 2010 in the form of guest roles on the Disney series Wizards of Waverly Place and The Suite Life on Deck.
He was born in Long Beach, California and is an avid sportsman, enjoying such sports as snowboarding and surfing; and he was a high school champ in golf (which certainly helps with his character on Jane by Design, who worked as a golf caddie).
In a recent online Q&A with fans of Jane by Design, Nick shared that he knew he wanted to be a an actor when he saw the late Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight; but it is actually actress Meryl Streep who he would most love to work with.
