Musical Theatre Actress Krysta Rodriguez Has Landed Series Regular Role on SMASH

By  |

While she is a relative newcomer to television (she made a guest appearance on an episode of Gossip Girl), actress Krysta Rodriguez is a musical theatre veteran, who will be getting a lot of attention on NBC’s Smash when it returns for its second season. She has landed the series regular role of Ana, Karen’s (Katharine McPhee) fun and spunky new roommate who is looking for her big break on Broadway.

She will be joining Oscar winner (and former American Idol alum) Jennifer Hudson, Tony-nominated actor Jeremy Jordan and “up-and-comer’ Any Mientus who have been added to the cast for the show’s second season. A season that will see the (somewhat welcomed) departures of (the viewers despised) Ellis, Karen’s boyfriend Dev, Julia’s (Debra Messing) husband Frank and Michael Swift.

Among her credits on Broadway are the musicals Good Vibrations, A Chorus Line, Gidget the Musical and The Addams Family.

Smash is expected to return to NBC in early 2013. [Source: TV Line]

Using her favorite online handle, Rueben is an East Coast-bred gal who is now a permanent Californian and a lifelong tv-oholic. She watches at least 25 TV shows a week, goes to the movies as often as possible, listens to music every waking moment, reads every day and “plays” on the internet every chance she can. Some of her current favorite TV shows are Outlander, Sweet Magnolias, Wednesday, The Mandalorian, The Equalizer, Fire Country, Miss Scarlet, Hudson & Rex, SkyMed, The Rookie, Cobra Kai, Virgin River, The Witcher, Leverage: Redemption and School Spirits. She is looking forward to the long-awaited return of Bridgerton, is curious about the debut of Orphan Black: Echoes and the 3rd and final season of Sweet Tooth coming in June, and the season finales of the abbreviated 2023-2024 TV season.
