Advanced Review: THE GLADES “Poseidon Adventure” (Season 3, Episode 2)
It’s the case of the washed-up mermaid and when you say something like that in relation to The Glades that could only mean one thing: a woman dressed in a mermaid tail washes up dead on the beach, scaring the swimmers and lifeguard to death at first thinking it’s a shark.
The sad truth is that the victim – Cassandra Hudson – is actually part of a synchronized swim team called “The Sirens of the Sea” who are working on what they hope to be the next big thing: a Broadway-like musical set in the water. In fact, the swim team’s investor, former one-hit wonder Darryl McMillan (guest star Keith Robinson) equates their work to that of “Phantom of the Opera in water”. Whether the show can be a success or not is best left to be seen [or not], but suffice it to say, the girls on the swim team, their coach, Jay Nelson (guest star Jay Hayden), the late Cassandra and her bad-girl sister Brooke (guest star Amelia Rose Blaire) were sure pinning their hopes on it. That is until Cassandra washed up dead on the beach.
Now it’s the job of Jim, Carlos and Daniel to figure out how she died and who is the culprit. As the leads pan out, it first looks like bad-girl sister Brooke, who is bit of a drinker (Jim finds her in the drunk tank at the station), did in her picture perfect sister; but then it turns out it could have been lovelorn coach Jay who is at fault [seems Jay and Cassandra went to college together and he had his heart set on her but not vice versa] or perhaps it was Darryl, the investor, who had the means and access to the location where Cassandra’s body was originally dumped before washing up onshore. So as not to spoil how Jim figures out “whodunit”, I’ll leave that storyline alone, but it is an interesting little twist. Let’s just say that the bad-girl sister and the picture perfect sister are not all they seem to be. [You’ll have to watch to figure out what really happened to poor Cassandra.]
On the personal front, Callie and Jim’s relationship is still going strong, but Callie is still not having any luck landing a new job. So, she decides to take a different approach, she is going to get a loan so she can go back to school full-time to become a doctor. The hitch in her scheme, though, is that no bank is willing to loan her the money because she doesn’t have a job; and since she can’t get a job she is caught in the middle.
Jim, being the faithful boyfriend that he is [after all he had been pinning away for Callie for quite some time before the fates lined up for them to be a couple] suggests that she “take a break” and just enjoy some time off after working so hard for so many years. Of course, though, Callie begins to go stir crazy even getting under the skin of her son Jeff (as if that is possible considering he is a teenager) and she even picks up the phone to check on the head of nursing position in Atlanta that she passed up in order to stay in Florida with Jim. Well, guess what, the position is still open and Callie is tempted; but what will she and Jim do with their budding relationship? Again, you’ll need to tune in to find out just what happens between our favorite couple.
“Poseidon Adventure” is the second episode of the third season of The Glades, which will air on A&E this Sunday, June 10 at 9 PM.
