MODERN FAMILY: Baby on Board

By  |

The season 3 finale was a nice change for Modern Family. There were ups, downs, surprises and even Jay dancing on stage with Lily (how did that happen)! This episode was jam packed so let’s get to it.

We begin with Cam helping Lily rehearse for her dance recital. They look so cute together practicing her dance moves. Mitchell gets a call from the adoption agency telling them that they were chosen and their baby was being born that day. They are ecstatic! They are finally going to get another baby! The only thing is that they will have to drive down to the California-Mexico border to get him, which means they will miss Lily’s dance recital.

Cam and Mitchell head over to Jay and Gloria’s. They ask Gloria to come with them because they need someone who can Speak Spanish (Cam thinks he has it covered because he watches a Telenovela -Spanish soap opera- but he still needs some work). This means Jay and Manny are in charge of watching Lily and capturing every moment of her recital on camera for the proud Dad’s to see at a later time.

Over at the Dunphy’s Alex is looking forward to going to her prom. They pick on her for being geeky and Luke can’t believe she is going to the prom and Haley isn’t. Alex is offended that they are not worried about her going to the prom, so she gives her prom date a bad boy image and says she might “hook up all over him” (which was hilarious). Needless to say they were not worried.

Haley decides not to go to prom because it is a lame excuse for people to hump each other (too funny). But she has other plans. While Alex is at the prom she plans to break the news to her parents that she plans on moving in with Dylan after graduation. Gasp!

Cam, Mitchell and Gloria are on the way to the hospital to get their baby. Cam is driving and Gloria complains that all of the twists and turns were making her nauseous. Cam asks her to fill him in on the Telenovela to distract her and get the scoop. Mitchell isn’t really a fan of the show. He thinks they are just over-acted storylines by people that are incredibly good looking (well he kind of has a point).

Jay and Manny take Lily to her dance recital and Manny points out that Lily isn’t as good as everyone else. Her dance teacher comes over to them and lets them know that Lily doesn’t want to perform anymore and one of them should talk to her. Jay decides to give her a pep talk but isn’t able to convince her to go on. There is only one way she will perform and that is if he goes out there with her. They danced together (and I have to say it was one of the cutest moments I have seen on the show) and Manny got it all on video.

Over at the Pritchett’s, Alex comes downstairs and looks adorable in her dress (she didn’t like to be called adorable). She tries to rush off but Claire and Phil insist to take pictures of the moment. Her date comes in and we realize that he is not a bad boy at all, but he is gay (and just doesn’t know it yet according to Alex). They take hilarious prom pictures with lots of “flash.”

Haley pulls out the stops and cooks dinner for Dylan and her parents. Dylan lets it slip that next time they should have dinner together at “their place.” Haley admits that since she will be working (she hasn’t gotten any college acceptance letters yet) they wanted to get an apartment together. Claire and Phil gave her a lecture along with every excuse in the world as why she should not move in with him. Claire tries to use things that will hit home for Haley like having bad skin, and having to wear Alex’s hand me downs because she will have no money to shop (wow that was a low blow). They fail to convince her not to move in with him, but it all worked out because Luke admitted to hiding her acceptance letter (along with a bunch of other important mail). Since Haley is off to college after all, Dylan wants to take her to prom so she will always remember him. They borrow duds from Claire and Phil and head to the prom.

Cam & Co. arrive at the hospital to get their baby. From the moment they stepped in the hospital it was like a live Telenovela (thank goodness Gloria came with them). There was priest, a sister, a man-stealer and a gardener who all were extremely good looking and had something to say about the situation. Gloria gave them the play by play. The baby’s mother‘s Abuela (grandmother) found out about the baby and she wasn’t supposed to. Now the Abuela wants to raise the baby herself which means no baby for Cam and Mitchell. This was heartbreaking for them.

Defeated they head home but stop for gas first. Gloria goes inside to get something for her upset stomach. Mitchell walks off and finally breaks down. He has kept it together all along. Cam goes after him and they share a tearful, tender moment. Mitchell is tired of being on an emotional roller coaster. He can’t keep getting his hopes up to get a baby, only to be let down when someone changes their mind. They decide to take a break from adopting. They lay down in the grass and looked up at the sky and held hands. Mitchell said “I think I am laying on a rock.” Cam responded, “I am lying next to mine.” Aw! So sweet!

Gloria closes out the finale remembering how certain moments in your life, you will never forget. She will never forget how she held Manny for the first time. Well, she is going to have a similar moment soon because she is pregnant. We have a Baby on Board!

What a great episode! I can’t wait to see what happens in season 4! I think seeing Gloria pregnant will be hilarious! How will Jay and Manny react? How will Cam and Mitchell feel? We will have to wait and see. Thanks for sticking around this season and make sure to check back with the Nice Girls for Season 4 of Modern Family on ABC!
