BODY OF PROOF: Outbreak of New Webisodes
If you’re like me and can’t get enough Body of Proof every week, this week you’re in luck. After the potentially game-changing and explosive episode that aired on Tuesday, Body of Proof is following a lot of other great shows and going to where it knows a lot of its fans live: the Internet. This isn’t their first voyage into cyberspace (hop on youtube and search around for the Body of Proof musical. ABC Legal may have taken it down, but the Internet works in viral ways), nor, I hope, will it be their last.
So ABC has created a five-part series of webisodes based on the latest episode (Going Viral, Part I). The first was put up on Tuesday right after the show aired, with new episodes airing each day until Going Viral, Part II airs on Tuesday, April 3rd. The webisodes will follow Julie Tompkins (Julie Jenkins), a reporter seen at the end of the episode, and her personal experience with an eco-terrorist’s virus spreading all over Philadelphia.
“Our team is committed to creating the ultimate fan experience,” said Karin Gilford, SVP of Digital Media, ABC Entertainment. “In this case we worked closely with show producers to create an entire story [arc] that connects these two highly eventful episodes. It’s a great way to maintain the suspense, and enable fans to dig even deeper into the plot.”
Body of Proof has a strong online following, particularly on Twitter thanks to prolific tweets by Dana Delany and Jeri Ryan. Making webisodes based on the show (which has struggled in ratings but received a bump during Tuesday’s episode) just seems like a great fit.
Special guest stars for “Going Viral” include Nathalie Kelley as Dani Alvarez, Luke Perry as Dr. Charlie Stafford, Dean Norris as S.A.C. Brendan Johnson, Nick Stahl as Marcel Trevino, and Julie Jenkins as Julie Tompkins.
You can find the first of the webisodes here, and watch the full episode here.
Body of Proof airs on ABC on Tuesdays at 10/9c.
