LOST GIRL Recap: “Lachlan’s Gambit” (Episode 20, Season 2)

By  |

The Goruda (guest star Raoul Trujillo) is drawing closer and the proof is all over the headlines, which Trick shows to Bo at the bar. Horses are electrocuted themselves enmass, bats are giving up their nocturnal habits and all of the snakes at the local zoo have simply vanished. Trick tells Bo that the animals know that he is near and they need to prepare for the impending battle. It is then that a very smelly mole-like Fae climbs out of hole beneath Trick’s home, surprising Bo and bringing disappointing news to Trick about the Goruda’s location. As it turns out, the mole-man is working for Trick, to repay a debt to the Blood King; but since he is coming up empty, Trick is very angry and orders him to get him the Goruda’s location immediately.

Bo

Back upstairs in the bar, Bo is waiting for Trick to finish his “meeting” with the mole-man when a group of guys enter the bar (no this isn’t the start of a silly joke) who are there on orders to take Trick with them (they obviously work for the Goruda); but Bo is having none of that. She warns them that they will have to go through her to get Trick then a hooded woman stands up behind her and joins Bo. That woman is none other than Ciara (guest star Lina Roessler) who is back in town because of the impending battle. They are quickly joined by Hale who makes the fight fairer. While Bo and Ciara are able to knock out their foes, Hale is on the receiving end of a nasty wallop to the head.

Soon enough Kenzi shows up at the bar, chastising Hale for allowing his face – the only asset he has, she jokes – to get messed up in the fight. The team talks about how they must be dealing with a rat among their group for the Goruda’s men to feel ballsy enough to walk into the weigh station (aka Trick’s bar, which is a safe haven for both sides of the Fae). But Trick corrects them that it’s not a rat but a mole working against them. The mole-man who is supposed to be working for him is really working for the Goruda. Trick summons the mole-man with Bo and Ciara holding him down, demanding the Goruda’s location; but he won’t cough up the details so Trick uses a device against the mole-man that burns his eyes, eventually making him give up the much-needed details. Bo is not happy with this type of interrogation, causing Trick to remind her that they are at work and she will have to grow a thicker skin.

Ciara

It is then that some of Lachlan’s guards arrive at the bar to take Trick to see the Ash, allowing Bo and Ciara to briefly chat. Bo reveals to Ciara that Nadia was being used by the Goruda as a spy and there is no way to know what kind of intel Nadia inadvertently provided him. Ciara tells Bo that despite the consequences, she needs to figure out what information Nadia might have provided. So, Bo pays a visit to Lauren, who isn’t exactly happy to see Bo (as you’ll recall Bo had to kill Nadia in last week’s episode). Lauren is still in a state of shock and is not interested in helping Bo with the details she needs; she would much rather get ready to go to Lachlan’s to work in order to get her mind off what happened and to prepare for the impending battle.

Bo returns to the bar empty-handed, but then Dyson shows up (which only seems to please Kenzi) after being gone for a short time. They all thought he simply ran away, but he informs them that he was on vision quest to get answers. He explains that he was visited by the wolf spirit, who told him that he would be the one to battle the Goruda (not Bo, who is supposed to be Lachlan’s champion against the Goruda). As Bo and Dyson talk about the weird occurrences, a thought comes to her mind about the snakes disappearing, which sends her and Dyson off to Lachlan’s compound – where Trick was taken. It turns out that Lachlan was being affected by the Goruda’s nearness, making him nearly force Trick – as the Blood King – to give up his blood unwillingly to re-write the Fae rules, putting an end to the battle before it can be started. While Trick warns Lachlan that the blood writing cannot be done unless it is of his own free will, Lachlan almost cuts Trick, but is stopped just in time by Bo and Dyson. Because of Lachlan’s actions against Trick, Bo is siding with Dyson telling Lachlan that she will fight beside Dyson because she trusts him.

Dyson, Bo and Kenzi

As the impending battle draws near, Lauren seeks non-sexually comfort in Bo’s arms while Ciara decides, if tomorrow is their last day on Earth, she wants to spend it in Dyson’s bed. The morning comes all too soon and the team – sans Lauren who is contemplating finally leaving Lachlan’s employ and Trick who is seeking sanctuary at Lachlan’s compound – sets out to the Goruda’s location for the battle. The lines are drawn and a battle of sorts commences, but Bo quickly realizes that it was all a ruse to divert them, leaving Trick and Lachlan unprotected.

The resulting fight with the Goruda and his henchman –known as the Berserkers – sadly takes the life of Ciara; and because of that loss Dyson demands Bo, Hale and Kenzi to get out quickly and make their way to Lachlan’s to provide them with protection. Dyson is left to fight off about half a dozen berserkers on his own (but Kenzi double-backed to help him). Lachlan also had a plan in motion, giving his venom – the only thing that can end the Goruda’s life (besides Trick’s blood) – to Lauren to use at a later time. In the end, Lachlan sacrifices himself to save Trick who then uses the mole-man to force the Goruda underground (for now). By doing this they hope to trick the Goruda into thinking that he will now be invincible because of Lachlan’s death. That may or may not be true because Lachlan’s venom was coagulating and could potentially be rendered unusable.

Trick

As Bo rushes back to the Goruda’s lair where Dyson was fighting the Berserkers, she sees Kenzi wheeling a very injured Dyson on a small flatbed cart and it is then that she realizes that it’s “all on her”. Kenzi tells her that they all have her back and Bo utters, “all right, bring it on”.
