FOX
BREAKING IN Recap: The Blind Side of Love
Nothing like starting the show focused on Nerd Guy, whose name I cannot remember, explaining to Melanie how he has a stamp from every state. He goes on to list the states. Cameron thankfully saves her from the bore-tex.
Cash sees Cameron talking to Melanie and after she walks off he tells Cameron to “GO BIG!”…like the bat signal, but with her face, and project it on the moon big.
Enter Veronica, who just got back from visiting her daughter in Boston. She brought clam chowder with her, except it has gone bad. Creepy Carol doesn’t seem to mind.
6 Minutes Later:
Oz is holding a meeting. They have a new client, InnoTek. A hacker known as Rembrandt has made the lights on the outside of their building into a video game (think Pac man). Cash is understandably in awe. Cameron is defensive of hackers being thought of as sad, lonely virgins by Veronica.
The job of tracking the hacker is given to Cameron, but Molly says that they can no longer do whatever they want. Due to their many many lawsuits OCP has mandated a protocol officer for each job. In this case it is her.
There is a folder of lawsuits which Veronica makes Molly carry around because, “otherwise she would have crazy Madonna arms.”
10:30AM:
Cash is outfitting Cameron’s car with a huge antenna that will be able to find Rembrandts signal. Cash also made a full metal statue of Melanie, a Metal-me if you will. It’s for Cameron to give to Melanie. It’s his, go big gesture.
Melanie walks in, sees the statue and yells at Cameron. She says they are never going to get together, not going to happen!
Molly and Oz walk up. Molly has more protocols. Oz delights in mocking her while standing right next to her. The latest protocol…no solo ops. Oz makes Melanie Cameron’s wing man on the job.
7:49PM:
Oz is in sunglass at the conference table reading. I’m usually not a fan of a guy in sunglasses inside a building but Christian Slater can do whatever he wants. He is just that cool and sexy.
Veronica and Crazy Carol are also at the table. Veronica is talking about her daughter. “Ariel was 11 pounds when she was born. My vagina just snapped right back.”
Crazy Carol wants to share a picture of the love of her life, Sammy, her dog. People even say they look alike. Except it isn’t a dog in the picture, it’s a possum. An angry looking possum.
Oz is trying to ignore them, while he watches the monitor in front of him. Melanie and Cameron have found Rembrandt’s house. He tells them to stake it out.
It is pretty awkward in the car. Melanie is shivering, she is just wearing a tank top, so Cameron tries to give her his jacket. She accuses him of trying to live a Katherine Heigl movie. Putting his coat over puddles, making out in the rain, etc… He is being too chivalrous. Melanie says he is a great guy, but what he needs is a romantic comedy girl and that is not her. She doesn’t even like to cuddle.
She tries to turn on the radio as a distraction but the tuner is broken. It just blares Spanish music.
5 Hours Later:
Its morning and Melanie is full on laying over Cameron. She has her arms around him and everything. They wake up and she quickly gets back to her side of the front seat.
A kid about 14 shows up at their window with Pop Tarts. He says he is Rembrandt. He is late for skipping school but good luck trying to catch him.
Oz wants to call the cops and Shawshank this kid. Veronica thinks Oz is being a douche. Oz tells Veronica to stay out of it but next scene Veronica is at Jamal’s house (Rembrandt) telling on him to his Mother. Poor Molly is standing there looking very uncomfortable.
Veronica feels like she gets Jamal, she wants to know if she can take him under his wing. Veronica is being vaguely racist, calling his Mom, whose name is Janet, Shanae, calls her “girlfriend”, wants to fist bump, etc…
Jamal’s Mom agrees to Veronica getting him back on track but then tells them to get out, leaving Molly apologizing as they go.
10:37AM
Melody is standing in the office with Jamal. He is hitting on her. Wants to show her the gun show, she says she doesn’t like guns.
Oz and Veronica are arguing. He told her to stay out of it. She says this is going to be her The Blind Side moment. All Oz can say is, Oh Dear God!”
Veronica has made Jamal their new office intern.
Oz: This is not a boy you make an intern…this is a boy you turn in.
Veronica: Mark my words, Jamal Alphonso Jenkins will surprise us all.
Cameron is listening to Cash go on about how he thinks he and Melanie are about to do it. Melanie walks by and won’t even give Cameron one second of her time.
Nerd Guy: You are like the beeper kiosk at the mall…Shut Down.
Tall Black Guy: Both a burn and a social commentary. Respect.
Oz wonders why Melanie is giving Cameron the cold shoulder. Cameron says something happened. Oz cannot believe it was car booty. Cash chimes in that they cuddled.
Oz is not happy…tells Cameron to get to the Bat Cave. Sitting in his Star Trek chair across from Cameron, Oz shines a bright light in Cameron’s face. He wants to know who cuddled who. Cameron says it was Melanie who cuddled him.
Oz says Melanie doesn’t like feelings. Flash to February 14, 1994, a young Melanie is standing at a locker when a boy walks up and asks Melanie to be his Valentine. She looks freaked out. Next moment it is February 15, 1994 and a teacher is introducing a new student. She transferred schools.
Oz wants Cameron to undo the cuddle with Melanie before she “transfers to another school”.
Meanwhile Veronica is showing Jamal around. She is explaining to him all the fun things he can do, filing, faxing, sorting, and while he is at it he should call her Moms.
3 Minutes Later:
Jamal is hacking into Contra’s computers and downloading all of their files.
Cameron is waiting outside in the pouring rain for Melanie. He is sorry about this morning. She blows him off. Suddenly he isn’t sorry, he woke up and they were spooning, “And she was the big spoon, a big soup ladle.” He says if she isn’t into him he gets it. She cuts him off by grabbing his face and kissing him, because you know, it’s pouring rain and this is a romantic comedy of sorts. The music swells and it is Spanish music.
Cameron and Melanie do it in the back of his car. She says the moment is perfect and she is a Heigl after all.
Oz and the rest of the office confront Veronica. Jamal is a big problem. He is hitting on all of the women in the office, even the pregnant woman. You see Crazy Carol trying to hit on him with no luck. This is where my daughter spoke up that Jamal is only 14 and Carol really is Crazy.
Jamal stole their laptops, their files and everyone’s social security numbers. He is a kleptomaniac.
Veronica calls them callous. He is acting out because his Dad was fired after 30 years at InnoTek. Oz lets her know his Dad is actually a very successful chiropractor. She was played.
8:17AM
Melody finds Oz, she is going to break protocol to let Oz know this whole Blind Side is really about Veronica and her daughter. She was in Boston to take her daughter to a school or troubled teens.
Molly: She started smoking hip hop cigarettes.
Oz makes a face and heads for Jamal’s house. He could be the next Jobs, why is he throwing his life away?
After a few snarky comments from Jamal Oz says he is going to give back all the stuff he stole and give Veronica her racist Blind Side moment…or else.
Or else what?
Or else Oz will leak the video he has of Jamal playing Annie in his school play. Seeing as this video would destroy his cred, he opts to do as Oz says.
Back at the office Cash is wondering where Cameron was last night. Love and Other Drugs was on and he wanted to watch it while on the phone with Cameron.
Cameron says he was with Melanie. Cash instantly wants to do a mind meld with him so he can experience what it must have been like.
Cameron gets to Melanie’s desk but it is cleared out. She is gone.
Flash to Melanie on her bike asking Oz to explain to Cameron that she has left. Oz tells her there is always a place at Contra for her before she rides off.
She did give Oz a gift box to give to Cameron. It is a dial for his car radio.
Oz, Cameron and Cash stand in the warehouse with the Melanie statue over a burning pit. They have a few beers and watch Cash lower Metal-Me into the pit in true Terminator fashion.
Oz: She does love you…she just hates love.
Oz walks back through the office and sees Jamal pretending to have a great time putting together a puzzle with Veronica. He even made up a handshake with her.
So Odette Annable is off to do her stint on House. Will you miss her? I’m not sure how many episodes she signed on for so maybe she will be back before the end of the season for a few more epsiodes.
I really like how this show is getting their rhythm back. The characters are all finding their groove and work really well together. Veronica’s ridiculousness is perfect up against Oz’s cool yet crazy demeanor.
Not to mention the writers penchant for pop culture references. I love it!
