VEEP: Julia Louis-Dreyfus Is One Heartbeat Away From The Oval Office

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is one of my favorite people to watch on screen. I enjoyed her in Seinfeld, sure, but I loved her in The New Adventures of Old Christine. The show, and her character, often veered into the ridiculous, but stopped just short of being farcical. Playing a woman trying to have it all but too lazy/impulsive/riddled with self doubt to quite get there, Julia’s comedic skills were put to the test every week. And every week, she nailed it.

Now Julia is starring in the new HBO series VEEP, about the first female Vice President of the United States. Judging from the trailer below, she’s toned down more than her hair. Broad comedy gives way to a more nuanced wit as her character, Selina Meyer, tries to manage a job that’s nothing like she expected. VEEP co-stars Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott, and Tony Hale.

VEEP premieres April 22 on HBO.
