MODERN FAMILY: Two Singing Men, Eggs and Confetti
This week on Modern Family, we begin with Phil excitedly telling Claire and Haley about his seminar to recruit first-time home buyers. Haley is the least bit thrilled. Claire heads out of the kitchen and slips on broken eggs and falls flat on the floor. Already 2 minutes into this episode and I am laughing my head off. How do they do it? They keep us laughing week after week and it never gets old.
We find out that Luke and Manny have a school assignment to create a container that can shield an egg from a one-story drop. Of course Jay and Claire won’t let them do the projects themselves, they take over and it turns into a Daddy/Daughter competition. The funny thing is both containers successfully protected the eggs from the one-story fall, but Claire and Jay were determined to see which project was better by taking it up a few stories. We start to feel sorry for Luke and Manny as they watch this competition, until we find out it was their plan all along. They knew if they planted the seed that they were getting help from their parent, Claire and Jay would do the work for them. This leads to a heartfelt talk between Jay and Claire where he reveals that one of the things he loves most about her is that she never gives up. Then the true winner is revealed when Alex (who had previously completed the project with ease) shows her egg dropping contraption. You gotta love a girl with brains.
Mitchell and Cam are meeting with a potential birth mother, Lindsay, for their next child. They are on their best behavior by putting up with her rearranging the furniture, and her views of tuna vs. dolphins. She tells them the baby’s father is a musician and it was important that the baby grows up in a musical home. So what do they do? They break-out in a song and dance of course! She was impressed, especially by Mitchell, and she told Cam he was actually a little pitchy (GASP! No she didn’t! Well yes, she did and I might add that Cam kept his cool by only shooting her a look).
Lindsay thinks Mitchell and Cam would make wonderful parents. Mitchell heads off to get some celebratory sparkling cider. In order to prove he is not “pitchy”, Cam decides to sing “If You Leave Me Now” which makes Lindsay emotional and she chooses to keep her baby. No luck for Cam and Mitchell this time.
Phil is preparing for his seminar with Haley and Gloria as his “support staff” (Claire was too busy doing Luke’s project to assist). He’ll present “The Five Keys to Investing Wisely” while saving the sixth key for his grand finale. Gloria is to stand up and ask a question that will lead him into his “sixth key” speech. Haley will then shoot the confetti cannon, release a big banner and Voila! The grand finale!
Unfortunately for Phil, Gloria and Haley decide to go to the nail salon before the seminar and their car gets towed. Phil has no choice but to do his presentation alone. Everything that could possibly go wrong for him does. When they finally show up, a defeated Phil is sweeping up confetti. He doesn’t yell at Gloria and this upsets her. She believes that if your family really loves you then they should feel comfortable screaming at you. She finally gets Phil to yell at her and they embrace. Although he was let down, he loves his family, just as much as we do.
Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9pm EST/8pm CST on ABC.
