LAW & ORDER SVU: Harry Connick Jr. to Guest as Benson’s Love Interest

We don’t usually report on Law & Order: SVU here at NiceGirlsTV, not because we don’t like it but because I can only handle it in sporadic. I think Mariska Hargitay is excellent as Olivia Benson, and was upset when Chris Meloni broke up the team. I tend to record episodes on the DVR, then watch a few back to back over a weekend. It’s nice to see the bad guys get their comeuppance, and the cases are generally creative, but knowing that there are people in the world who commit those crimes? Ghastly. Not something I want to think about on any regular basis.

But today, we have happy news to report: Olivia Benson is getting a love interest! Chronically single, Olivia once said dating in her line of work was hard because once she told the guy what her job is, he’s either totally turned off or creepily wants to know more. Ew. With the announcement that Harry Connick, Jr. is coming on board as a love interest, for at least four episodes, it sounds like her luck may be changing. The yummy actor/musician will play an assistant district attorney who works a case with Olivia, and, of course, sparks fly.

Is Olivia Benson finally destined for happiness? Mariska certainly is happy about the development. In the press release from NBC, she says, “This is a home run on so many levels. The show is very fortunate to have Harry’s extraordinary talent, and I’m lucky because I get to work with my friend. I think Olivia couldn’t have asked for a better companion to take her through a new stage in her life and career.”

Harry’s first episode airs Wednesday, January 18 at 10/9c on NBC.
