PSYCH: Fall Finale Finds Couples Interrupted
Tomorrow night is the fall finale of Psych (wow, that went by fast!) and in “Neil Simon’s Lover’s Retreat”, Shawn and Juliet attempt to go on a relaxing vacation with no Gus, no Lassiter and no cases. But you know, this is “Psych” so nothing will be relaxed, least of all Shawn.
Warning: minor spoilers ahead!
Shawn and Juliet are headed off to their first couple’s retreat at a high end spa (paid for by Shawn with Gus’s credit card) for the weekend. Shawn is quite obviously nervous about this vacation and appears to have separation anxiety as he leaves Gus with a set of instructions while he is gone.
Gus is not looking any more at ease as he realizes that Shawn is leaving him behind and going off with Juliet. Doing a little shopping for himself, Gus runs into Lassiter and Henry and as much as they each try to cover it up, none of them have any great plans for the weekend.
Meanwhile, Shawn and Juliet meet another couple at the spa and they all hit it off pretty well and make plans to hang out together. This is where Jason Priestly comes on the scene. He and his wife play a sickeningly sweet couple, Barbie and Clive (yes, yes indeed), who Juliet thinks are adorable but Shawn is at first suspicious of them. It was funny because Barbie and Clive (having a hard time saying those names without a smirk on my face) are so completely opposite Shawn and Jules as couples go. Shawn is repelled by all the sugary displays of affection but Juliet thinks they’re cute.
As the episode continues, Shawn and Juliet discover that someone has broken into their room and robbed them, but the only thing Shawn is absolutely frantic about is his [easyazon-link asin=”B000I10PY2″]Nintendo DS[/easyazon-link]. This is so typical of Shawn, to be more concerned over his game toy than his luggage. Juliet is more concerned that Shawn wants to take on the investigation and sees her relaxing retreat slowly ebbing away.
It comes to a dead stop when they discover a body in their search for the missing luggage – and Nintendo DS. This also interrupts the boys’ weekend back home and Lassiter, Gus and Henry arrive on the scene to help solve the murder – and find that Nintendo DS.
Jason Priestly was a wonderful treat in this episode, as well as Tony Hale. I’ve missed Tony since his character, Emmett, was shot down on “Chuck“. It was great to see him again. Arden Myrin (Suburgatory) shows up too, playing a ditzy blonde whom Henry meets at a club and is now stalking him.
“Neil Simon’s Lover’s Retreat” gives us a bit more serious and worried Shawn than we are used to seeing, but Gus, Henry and Lassiter’s male bonding weekend offsets that perfectly. Shawn is worried that Jules is looking for more of a commitment from him, hence the reason for the retreat. At one point, Juliet tells Shawn that he’s acting like a child and he replies with a loud “I AM NOT ACTING!” Well alright, I can get behind that statement. But there’s still that Nintendo DS he’s so upset about. The spa management does find it and returns it to Gus. It’s a bit altered though and I’ll leave it at that.
Watch the fall season finale of Psych tomorrow night at 10/9c, on USA Network. Don’t forget to come on back and tell us what you thought!
