Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on Executive Producer, Series Creator and Writer Katherine Fugate.

Katherine was born in Southern California and started out as a child actor on stage since the age of 6. Later she graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre. She worked on films like Alien 3, This Is My Life and The Good Son until she became an executive herself on the Columbia Pictures lot. But it was the Northridge earthquake that “gave her the clarity to remember she wanted to write” so she abandoned her film executive career to become a writer.

She was the writer of the screenplay for the 2004 film The Prince and Me and then she created the popular 2007 Lifetime series Army Wives, where she has served as the executive producer and writer as well. She was the writer of the screenplay for the 2010 chick flick Valentine’s Day and the writer of the upcoming box office film New Year’s Eve, which will be released on December 9.

Katherine was attracted to the arts by her aunt, legendary actress Barbara Eden of I Dream of Jeannie fame and was chosen as one of Variety’s annual “Women of Impact in Hollywood” for 2008.
