Spend a Spooky Night with the PRETTY LITTLE LIARS

By  |

This Wednesday (October 19), the ABC Family Channel will air a special Halloween episode of their popular teen drama Pretty Little Liars that is a flashback to a Halloween celebration before Allison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) went missing.

Allison and Emily

This episode will give an inside look at the girls and their friendship before the tragedy of her disappearance and murder. It will also provide, hopefully, a better understanding of Allison herself and maybe even give insight into what really happened to her.

Back in August, NiceGirlsTV was invited to the Warner Bros. set of Pretty Little Liars, getting the opportunity to chat with many of the cast members. The following Q&A is what the cast was able to share with the press, at that time, about the much-anticipated Halloween special:

Brendan Robinson:

Question: What is coming up for Lucas?

Brendan: Well, there is a lot of interesting Lucas stuff coming up in January…that may or may not involve Hanna; and that starts to develop in our Halloween episode…which is a prequel to the pilot. Allison is alive, Halloween is her favorite holiday (and) we’re going to see not only how Allison torments Lucas but the rest of Rosewood (too). We’ll get a lot of information about why somebody might have killed her. I can’t give away too many specifics…but it’s very exciting. It’s different from anything we’ve seen from Lucas before.

Question: Did you have any input into what your costume would be?

Brendan: I didn’t! It was a huge surprise to me…(but) it was custom-made. Actually all of the costumes were custom-made by our costume designer.

Question: In shooting the Halloween episode was it hard to put out of your head all the things that have happened because it is a prequel?

Brendan: Yes! It was a challenge. It was really a fun experience for me because I got to do things I don’t usually get to do in the show. I had a blast on that episode. But, we had to keep in mind it was a prequel.

Question: Are we going to see how Allison tormented Lucas?

Brendan: Yes, and then – more specifically – how Lucas reacted to that (torment).

Hanna

TYLER BLACKBURN:

Question: Does Caleb play a role in the Halloween episode?

Tyler: Well, (it) is done in flashbacks so it’s before my time here, unfortunately. It sounded so fun. Everybody got really crazy costumes. I wish…

ASHLEY BENSON:

Question: Can you talk about the Halloween episode?

Ashley: It’s all in flashback and it’s before Allison disappeared, before she was killed. It’s before all of that. So we get to see other characters like Ian and Melissa and Jenna when she could see – you get to see everything. There are so many different things going on and there are a lot of clues as to who “A” (might be) and what happened to Allison that night. There are a lot of different people who come in very quickly for a short amount of time (who) will have a big impact on the murder and the (whole) Allison situation. It’s going to be scary and it can give (the viewers) a lot of information.

Jenna

Question: Can you share what it was like having to wear the fat suit (for Hefty Hanna)?

Ashley: Well, being in a fat suit is awesome, but not when it is summer and I’m outside and I have to wear it for a week straight for all hours of the day. Usually I just have to wear it for short periods of time because I’m only in it for a certain scene in an episode. But, since it was all flashback I had to wear it for 7 days and it was hot.

SHAY MITCHELL AND TROIAN BELLISARIO:

Question: Can you talk a little about the Halloween episode and how it was filming that?

Shay: It was so much fun to see the girls at their youngest point and how they all were. I just loved Spencer, she was such a dork. And then you have Hefty Hanna. We had so much fun every single day; but it was so hot outside and Ashley was gasping for air (because she was) in (the fat) suit and everything. But it’s really neat because you get to see the girls and their relationship with Allison before her death.

Spencer

Troian: Yeah, the earliest stages because a lot of the flashbacks you see are kind of the latter part of their friendship. The flashbacks are generally the summer before Allison died so what you see is sort of who the girls are (when) around Allison: Spencer’s jealousy of Allison and Emily’s love for Allison. You get to see who they were when Allison first picked them to be in her group and (you get to) see the initial dynamics of “I don’t know what I want to do about this” or “I don’t know who I am yet?”

LUCY HALE AND IAN HARDING:

Question: What (can you tell us) about the Halloween episode?

Lucy: It is very cool because it is all flashback. It’s a prequel, and you know we’ve done flashbacks in the show before, but what’s cool about this one is that it’s almost from Allison’s perspective. It’s mainly about Allison, but the 4 girls are there. But it’s pre “A”, pre Allison’s death – life is good. You actually get to see the girls laughing and smiling so it was very fun and it’s (set at a) Halloween party. We get to dress up and it answers a lot of questions as to why Allison was the way that she was. We (also) go back to answer questions about Aria’s dad and his affair.

Question: Are we going to see Mr. Fitz in the Halloween flashback?

Ian: I do play a part. There is a little bit of Ezra in the flashback episode.

Aria

CHAD LOWE:

Question: In the Halloween episode, are we going to learn more about the affair that Byron had?

Chad: Yes. There is a really uncomfortable, emotional scene between Byron and Aria. It’s kind of an intimate look at that conversation (which is) full of conflict. It was exciting to play (that scene) and for the audience it’s kind of uncomfortable in the best possible way to watch.

Question: In the prequel episode, will we find out more about why Byron cheated?

Chad: Yes, in his mea culpa, if you will, (you will find out) not so much about WHY he did it but how he feels about having done it.

Needless to say, the Halloween episode is going to be exciting, thrilling and maybe even a bit scary. It is Halloween after all and in the world of the Pretty Little Liars you never know what might happen next.

Make sure to tune in to the ABC Family Channel this Wednesday, October 19 at 8/7c to find out what happens to the girls and make sure to look for clues that could lay the groundwork for what has transpired in the present.
