Nice Boy of the Week: Jim Caviezel
It is my extreme pleasure to introduce you to this week’s Nice Boy, Jim Caviezel. Jim stars in tonight’s series premiere of Person of Interest, airing on CBS. I couldn’t have been more pleased in finding out that Caviezel was attached to this project and that I would be seeing his wonderful talent on my television screen on a weekly basis.
I first saw Caviezel in “The Count of Monte Cristo”, in which he played the wronged Edmond Dantes from the famous Dumas novel. His acting range was so marked that I was riveted to my TV screen. From there, I had to look up all the information available on him. Turns out that Edmond Dantes was not Caviezel’s debut.
Jim Caviezel turned to acting when an injury kept him from pursuing a career with the NBA. His early television appearances included Murder She Wrote and The Wonder Years. He also appeared in the films Diggstown, Wyatt Earp, The Rock and G.I. Jane, before breaking out with his performance as Private Witt in The Thin Red Line.
In 2004, Caviezel was tapped by Mel Gibson to portray Jesus in The Passion of the Christ, a role that was physically challenging (Caviezel was struck by lightening during filming), yet earned high praise from critics. After loosing the part of Superman to Brandon Routh, Caviezel took on the lead in the film Unknown, then went on to appear in Tony Scott’s Déjà Vu and Outlander. Caviezel’s other film credits include Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, The Final Cut and The Prisoner.
Person of Interest is on my list of new TV shows to watch and Caviezel is the main reason. He brings such depth to the characters that he portrays and they are always on interest to me. I respect him as an actor and as a person, and it’s an honor to have him grace our Nice Boy page.
Watch Jim Caviezel in Person of Interest, premiering tonight at 9/8c, on CBS.
