September TV Calendar

Here is what you can look forward to seeing on TV in September. This includes all the new shows that are debuting for the fall and the returning favorites for the major networks. Additionally, this list includes the cable network shows returning for the fall as well as the remainder of the finales for the rest of the summer shows that have yet to end. Lastly, this list includes various specials and/or new made-for-TV movies:

SEPTEMBER:

September 3 – The NBC movie Game Time: Tackling the Past will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Pro football star Jake Walker (Ryan McPartlin from Chuck) is living the dream or so he thinks. The veteran tight end is a fan favorite and on pace to set the all-time receiving yards record that will guarantee him a spot in the Hall of Fame. But then he learns his father Frank (Beau Bridges) has suffered a major heart attack and he needs to return to his small hometown in North Carolina after 15 years away. His life will be changed by several other circumstances, making it necessary for him to decide if he’ll go back to the NFL or stay in his hometown. The cast also includes Catherine Hicks (7th Heaven) and Josh Braaten (The Ex List).

September 4 – The second season of the Canadian series Lost Girl will begin on Showcase

NOTE: America viewers will be getting a taste of the first season of the show via Syfy early in 2012.

September 5 – The Secret Life of the American Teenager will air its season finale on ABC Family at 8 PM.

September 5 – The season finale of The Glades will air on A&E at 10 PM

NOTE: This final episode will air on a different night than normal.

September 6 – Sons of Anarchy will be back on FX at 10 PM

September 6 – Combat Hospital will air its final episode on ABC at 10 PM

September 7 – The series finale of Rescue Me is expected to air on FX at 10 PM

September 8 – Burn Notice and Suits will both air their summer season finales on the USA Network tonight at 9 and 10 PM respectively

September 8 – The season finale of Rookie Blue will air on ABC at 10 PM

September 9 – The final episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day is anticipated to air on Starz at 10 PM

September 10 – The Syfy movie Jabberwock will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) battles the legendary Jabberwock, a black-eyed, winged monster with the body of a dragon and the head of a gruesome insect. Penikett plays a peaceful man must wield an all-powerful Vorpal sword to rescue the woman he loves, who was taken by the hideous creature.

September 11 – True Blood is expected to air its season finale on HBO at 9 PM

September 11 – The season finale of Breaking Bad is expected to air on AMC at 10 PM

September 12 – The mid-season finales of The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles will both air on TNT at 9 and 10 PM respectively

September 12 – The Lying Game, the new ABC Family series, will move to its new timeslot of 8 PM and will continue to air through October

September 13 – 90210 will return for a new season at 8 PM on The CW

September 13 – The new series Ringer will debut on The CW at 9 PM

Show Synopsis: Sarah Michelle Gellar will star as identical twin sisters who are complete opposites; Bridget is an exotic dancer who witnessed a murder while Siobhan is the trophy wife of a wealthy New Yorker. Rather than testify to what she saw, Bridget goes on the run, hiding out in her twin’s life after Siobhan disappears out at sea, with Bridget as the only witness. The cast includes Kristoffer Polaha, Ioan Gruffudd, Tara Summers and Nestor Carbonell.

September 13 – Parenthood will be back for a new season at 10 PM on NBC

September 14 – The new USA Network series Necessary Roughness will air its summer season finale at 10 PM

September 14 – The season finale of Damages will air on DirecTV at 10 PM.

September 15 – The Vampire Diaries will return for a third season at 8 PM on The CW

September 15 – The new series The Secret Circle will debut on The CW at 9 PM

Show Synopsis: Britt Robertson (Life Unexpected) stars as Cassie Blake, a teenage girl whose mother dies in a tragic accidental fire, making it necessary for her to move to Washington State to live with her grandmother. Once there, she discovers a hidden secret about herself and her family thanks to a group of high school classmates, who tell her that she is a witch, as are all of them. The cast includes Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, Ashley Crow, Natasha Henstridge, Shelly Henning, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Louis Hunter and Phoebe Tonkin.

September 15 – The new online web series Wendy will debut with new episodes airing online with new episodes airing every Tuesday and Thursday for five weeks.

Show Synopsis: Meaghan Martin (the TV version of 10 Things I Hate About You and Camp Rock) stars alongside Tyler Blackburn (Pretty Little Liars) in this updated version of the classic Peter Pan tale. The story chronicles Wendy having to choose between the boy she loves and the boy of her dreams.

September 16- Encore presentations of the debut episodes of Ringer and The Secret Circle will air on The CW at 8 and 9 PM respectively

September 17 – The made-for-TV movie Love Begins (part of the long-running Love Comes Softly series of movies based on the Janette Oke book series) will debut on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Clark Davis’ (Wes Brown from True Blood) adventurous dreams of seeing the world are put into jeopardy after he and a friend start a fight which damages a local cafe. Through a plea deal with the Sheriff (Jere Burns from Dear John) and café owner Millie (Nancy McKeon), Clark works off his sentence as a farmhand for the Barlow sisters, Ellen (Julie Mond from General Hospital) and Cassie (Abigail Mavity from Summerland). Older sister Ellen doesn’t understand Cassie’s open and friendly nature with Clark; she is much more reserved and cautious and only agreed to the Sheriff’s offer because the farm has become too much for two young women to maintain alone. Clark is slow in winning Ellen over, but suddenly suffers a traumatic head injury in a fall. As he is nursed back to health by Ellen, Clark recognizes his feelings for her as something much more than gratitude. Clark decides to surprise Ellen in town and express his feelings, but he is devastated to learn her former fiancé has just returned and hopes to win her back. Will Clark travel on? Or will he stay and make his life where love begins?

September 19 – The season finale of Eureka is set to air on Syfy at 8 PM

September 19 – Castle will return to ABC for another season at 10 PM

September 19 – The CBS drama Hawaii Five-0 will be back for its second season at 10 PM

September 19 – The new series The Playboy Club will debut on NBC at 10 PM

Show Synopsis: Set in the early 1960’s inside the legendary doors of the Playboy Club in Chicago, Eddie Cibrian stars as Nick Dalton, a man who once worked for the mob but is about to run for district attorney. He is a regular at the club where he ends up helping the newest “Bunny” – Maureen (Amber Heard), who accidentally kills one of the Windy City’s most powerful mafia bosses. The rest of the cast includes Naturi Naughton, Laura Benanti, David Krumholtz, Leah Renee, Jenna Dewan and Wes Ramsey.

September 20 – Glee will be back for its third season on FOX at 8 PM

September 20 – Body of Proof will return for its second season at 10 PM on ABC

September 20 – It is a big night on CBS when NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles return for new seasons at 8 and 9 PM respectively

September 20 – The new series Unforgettable will premiere on CBS at 10 PM

Show Synopsis: Poppy Montgomery stars as Carrie Wells, an enigmatic former police detective with a rare condition that makes her memory so flawless that every place, every conversation, every moment of joy and every heartbreak is forever embedded in her mind. Other co-stars include Dylan Walsh, Michael Gaston, Kevin Rankin and Daya Vaidya.

September 21 – The new drama Revenge will debut on ABC at 10 PM

Show Synopsis: Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp) is new to the Hamptons. She’s met some of her wealthy neighbors, has made a few new friends and seemingly blends into the town. But something is a little odd about a young girl living in a wealthy town all on her own, and the truth is that Emily isn’t exactly new to the neighborhood. In fact, this was once her old neighborhood, until something bad happened that ruined her family and their reputation. Now Emily is back, and she’s returned to right some of those wrongs in the best way she knows how – with a vengeance. The rest of the cast includes Madeleine Stowe, Gabriel Mann, Henry Czerny, Nick Wechsler, Ashley Madekwe, Josh Bowman, Christa B. Allen and Connor Paolo.

September 21 – Criminal Minds and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will air their season premieres on CBS at 9 and 10 PM respectively

September 21 – Harry’s Law and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will both be back for new seasons on NBC at 9 and 10 PM respectively

September 21 – The BBC America series The Hour will air its season finale at 10 PM

September 22 – The remake of the classic 70’s series Charlie’s Angels will debut on ABC at 8 PM

Show Synopsis: Set in Miami (and based on the 1970’s classic series), three new angels are recruited by anonymous millionaire Charlie Townsend to solve crimes. There’s Abby (Rachael Taylor), a Park Avenue princess who became a world-class thief. Then there’s Kate (Annie Ilonzeh), a Miami cop who fell from grace, losing both her career and her fiancé; and Eve (Minka Kelly), a street racer with a mysterious past. Ramon Rodriguez is Bosley.

September 22 – Grey’s Anatomy will be back on ABC with a 2-hour season premiere at 9 PM

September 22 – The new series Person of Interest will debut on CBS at 9 PM

Show Synopsis: This crime thriller chronicles the life of a presumed dead former CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) who teams up with a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice. Using state-of-the-art surveillance technology, the two work outside of the law using Reese’s adept skills and Finch’s unlimited wealth to unravel the mystery of the person of interest and stop the crime before it happens. Other cast members include Taraji P. Henson and Kevin Chapman.

September 22 – The Mentalist will return for a new season on CBS at 10 PM

September 22 – The new drama Prime Suspect will debut on NBC at 10 PM

Show Synopsis: Based on the popular UK series, Jane Timoney (Maria Bello) is a New York homicide detective in a male-dominated police department. She’s an outsider who was just transferred to a new precinct where a fraternity of cops isn’t willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. The rest of the cast includes Aidan Quinn, Brian O’Byrne, Tim Griffin, Kirk Acevedo, Joe Nieves, Damon Gupton and Peter Gerety.

September 23 – Fringe will return for another season on FOX at 9 PM

September 23 – Nikita will move to its new night and time at 8 PM with Supernatural returning to 9 PM on The CW

September 23 – The new medical drama A Gifted Man will debut at 8 PM on CBS

Show Synopsis: The show is about surgeon Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), who is an exceptional doctor living a materialistic life of luxury thanks to his work-obsessed career and powerful and wealthy patients. But, his ordered world is rocked when his ex-wife, Anna (Jennifer Ehle), an idealistic free-clinic doctor and the love of his life, mysteriously appears to him – SPOILER ALERT – (after being killed in an accident). The cast includes Margo Martindale and Julie Benz (in a recurring role as Michael’s sister).

September 23 – CSI: NY and Blue Bloods will both be back with their season premieres at 9 and 10 PM respectively on CBS

September 24 – The movie Morlocks will debut at 9 PM on Syfy

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: A scientist creates a time traveling device that transports people into a desolate future overrun by lethal humanoids, the Morlocks. Unfortunately, the creatures figure out how to transport themselves back into present day, triggering a race against time between human and humanoid. The film stars David Hewlett (Stargate Atlantis) and Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager).

September 25 – The season finale for the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva is expected to air at 9 PM

September 25 – Desperate Housewives will be back for one finale season on ABC at 9 PM

September 25 – The new drama Pan Am will debut on ABC at 10 PM

Show Synopsis: In the “modern world” of the 1960’s, air travel represents the height of luxury and Pan Am is the biggest name in the business. The planes are glamorous, the pilots are rock stars and the stewardesses are the most desirable women in the world. There is Dean (Mike Vogel), a cocky, charismatic and ambitious new pilot, who is secretly dating stewardess Bridget (Annabelle Wallis), a stunning beauty with a mysterious past; rebellious bohemian Maggie (Christina Ricci) who turns into a buttoned-up pro so she can travel the world; flirtatious Colette (Karine Vanasse), adventurous Kate (Kelli Garner) and her younger beauty queen sister Laura (Margot Robbie).

September 25 – The Good Wife will move to its new night (Sundays) at 9 PM followed by the return of CSI: Miami at 10 PM on CBS

September 25 – The GMC movie A Mile In His Shoes will debut at 7 and 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: This movie is an inspiring story about a special boy with an amazing gift and the coach who believed. Cast includes Dean Cain and Luke Schroder.

September 25 – Boardwalk Empire will be back on HBO for its second season at 9 PM

September 26 – Gossip Girl will now appear at 8 PM on The CW

UPDATED:
September 26 – There will be a marathon of episodes of Alphas today on Syfy (check local listings for airtimes), leading up to the season finale at 10 PM (that will run for 63 minutes)

September 26 – The debut of the new drama Hart of Dixie will air on The CW at 9 PM

Show Synopsis: Fast-talking New Yorker and brand new doctor Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) has it all figured out. After graduating top of her class from medical school, she will follow in her father’s footsteps, becoming a cardio-thoracic surgeon. But when her dreams fall apart, she decides to accept an offer from a stranger, Dr. Harley Wilkes, to work with him at his small practice in Bluebell, Alabama. Things go quite awry once she ends up in the Hart of Dixie, though. The cast includes Jamie King, Wilson Bethel, Cress Williams, McKaley Miller and Scott Porter.

September 26 – The new series Terra Nova will debut on FOX at 8 PM

Show Synopsis: The show follows an ordinary family on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a daring experiment to save the human race. In the year 2149, the world is dying. The planet is overdeveloped and overcrowded, with the majority of plant and animal life extinct. The future of mankind is in doubt, and its only hope for survival is in the distant past. When scientists unexpectedly discover a fracture in time that made it possible to construct a portal into primeval history, the bold notion is born to resettle humanity in the past – a second chance to rebuild civilization and get it right this time. The cast includes Shelley Conn, Christine Adams, Stephen Lang, Landon Liboiron, Allison Miller, Jason O’Mara and Naomi Scott.

September 28 – Luther will be back on with new episodes on BBC America at 10 PM

September 29 – Private Practice will be back in session for another season at 10 PM on ABC
