Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Katie Jacobs
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on Director and Executive Producer Katie Jacobs.
Getting her start as an assistant to the producer (David Permut) of the 1987 box office film Dragnet, which starred Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks, was a great way for Katie to break into the industry.
From there she worked as an associate producer for the 1991 comedy film 29th Street, starring Danny Aiello and Anthony LaPaglia. Then she moved on to the crime drama film Consenting Adults, with Kevin Kline and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in 1992.
The next year she was the producer of the thriller Fatal Instinct that starred Armand Assante and Sherrilyn Fenn; and followed that up in 1994 with the comedy film Getting Even with Dad that starred Ted Danson and Macauley Caulkin. In 1995, she moved into the executive producer seat for the made-for-TV movie called A Father for Charlie that starred Louis Gossett, Jr.
Three years later she was the producer of the dramatic film A Cool, Dry Place, starring Vince Vaughn, Joey Lauren Adams and Monica Potter. And, then in 2000 she was the executive producer for the short-lived TV series Gideon’s Crossing.
In 2002, she acted as executive producer on a TV movie called R.U.S./H. that featured Paul Adelstein; and then in 2004, she was the executive producer on the short-lived TV series Century City.
It was in 2004 that she hit pay-dirt by working with David Shore on the FOX medical drama House, where she has worked as a director and executive producer for 7 – soon to be 8 – very successful seasons. She also worked as executive producer of the Nurse Jeffrey: Bitch Tapes, which were “appisodes” that were for download on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
